Hello, this is my first post as a wedge newbie. Recently found a 1988 350i which has been dry stored for 14 years. I am just starting the long process of totally refurbishing her to what I hope will be show condition. Have already done a lot of research on these pages - which is really helpful and daunting !Prior to removing the body i have noticed that the drivers door has dropped a couple of mm and want to adjust to line it back up. Have checked the metal work both inside the door panel and that moulded into the main body and both are in surprisingly good nic. Any info on adjustment would be appreciated. Also would like to meet any wedge owners in the Kent area ? Will be posting some photos of the car soon. One last thing - does anyone own a 350i with the reg number F37 OLH - she used to belong to me sme years ago - would be nice to see if she is still around. Andy

Hi Andy, Welcome to the mad world of wedgedom...We have a policy on here that you MUST provide as many pics as possible of your stages of restoration..hehe..I think i can safetly say that all of us love a restoration thread and there are some good examples on here that are bound to help you, As well as the knowledge from all of us.
You will be surprised to know there are wedgers in your area and they will make themselves known at some point, There are various meets,There are a few of us who are trying to arrange more frequent meetings of wedgies..Then there is the BBWF..(Big Bad Wedge Fest) which is being held at stratford upon avon on the 29th-30th June, Details are on the main page under BBWF 2012 information.
Look forward to the piccys...The TVR wedges by steve heath is a good manual to have, Im sure someone on here will be able to sort you out a copy but also dont be affraid to ask any question even if it sounds a bit stupid..Cheers..Ziga

Hi Andy

As Zig says pics please (Mainly as Zig can read biggrin) Joking of course but as the saying goes pic speak a thousand words or some thing like that!
The Steve Heath Bible is a ref book which has limited use. Its doing the job which is the best way to learn!

Even better come along to BBWF with or without your car to get the best knowledge and fun! Plus you may even be able to get a copy of the bible there!

Enjoy your car!

Andy

Funny thing is I wonder how many Andys have wedges!
Might be another post here to find out the most popular wedge owners name!

No good without the specially engineered tool though!!..Which reminds me..More about that later..The bible maybe useless but it does show you how to adjust the door hinges...I will try to scan it in and send it you...Ziga

So what happened in the last hour or so to turn the bible from a good manual to have to a useless one?

Be careful with the door adjustment as in some cases a bigger gap at the rear of the door is due to the rear of the car's body drooping down. The rubber body mounts can deform the GRP and cause the boot to move down increasing the door gap.

I was pointing out that the "Bible" is useless, There are methods relating to the fixing of wooden doors with large hinges subliminally contained within the text...But you would be better off with a steve heath manual..Also referred to as the "Bible"..rolleyes...I personally think its a relatively good..read..Sorry for the..confused..Post..hehe
