Hi Peeps..Well i had the spare power steering pump refurbed as i couldnt find an exact match anywhere..I think its an austin maestro or montego part?..Anyway fitted the pump and so far NO leaks...I need to bleed out what was left in the hoses as i couldnt get them off too easily and putting the car up on axle stands was too long winded especially as at some point either this week or next i will be getting the head bolts re-torqued and a complete set of anchillary and coolant hoses fitted...Cheers..Ziga

It's a Hoburn-Eaton pump as used on a good many cars by the various BL family members - so yes, Maestro & Montego, but also with different length filler necks on other cars (such as the SD1).

Thanks for that mate..That also explains why the SD1 pumps look almost the same apart from the extra long neck..Cheers..Ziga

From memory, the only thing holding it all together is the large hex fitting that the top hose is screwed into. Remove that and the pump unit pushes out of the front of its housing... there's an O-ring around the innards to stop fluid leaking out the front.

Thanks mate...The manifolds let it down a bit but im contemplating having new ones made,The stainless ones from ACT are really nice and not that expensive in the great scheme of things but then i would need a complete system in stainless and that is expensive..If i had a second car i would of gone to the garage when the heads were off and cleaned up the cast and painted them for now...I should be fitting new silicone hoses soon..Black or red?..I cant decided yet..
Bit of a horror this morning, I nearly didnt have PAS as i heard a rattling noise which i thought was a noisy tappet but thought id better check anyway and to my horror i saw the steering pump pulley wheel and the belt wobbling like a plate of jelly...yikes
I went into howlfrauds on the way home and got some thread lock..Sorted..Cheers..Ziga

Zig,

I'm not sure, but I don't think Stainless handles high temps very well, and tends to crack. Even SS exhaust systems tend to do this after a while, so I'm thinking ex, manifolds may not last long. there are high temp paints which may be a better looking solution ??

Of course there may be newer SS alloys around, and I may still be in the stone age.....
Any other opinions ?
