winking head lights
Discussion
Hi there..
This is an old chestnut but the best approach should be:
If not then replace with cheap replacement from Maplin or similar
If no change or improvement then let us know for more in depth surgery!!

This is an old chestnut but the best approach should be:
- lift the car at the front put on axle stands
- Disconnect battery
- Lift the lights by winding them up by hand using the motor screws from underneath
- Check carefully and clean all connections/ joints each side for the lights, most of these can be done from underneath but you can remove each headlight and remove from the pod and work through the hole.
- Recheck operation by connecting the battery
If not then replace with cheap replacement from Maplin or similar
If no change or improvement then let us know for more in depth surgery!!

Yeah, and check all the connectors too, they can corrode and produce all sorts of weird effects.
I think a dodgy earth, (my favourite...) because the description indicates stray voltages making the relays drop out ??
Check the whole thing - yeah sorry, you have to take the headlights out to get at the connectors behind them, and check main earth returns too.
My early 280 has one (a long 6mm bolt and lots of eyelets) by the fuse box
