i'm sorry to hear things have really got that bad ralph, are you looking for a fuel injected or carb engine?
Hi Alits mainly because of the engine knocking mate and also the cost to fix the running issue, as at this piont it makes sense, am stil going to re-build the engine, but this way gets in me the wedge for the summer and any 3.5 v8 would do as i have most of the parts, but i would like a drop in runner mate as really dont need any further issues at this piont as it would do my head in lol
Cheers

I have been watching this post with interest and despair!
You seamed to have tried most obvious things to do,You have followed advice from various willling wedgers. But one of the hardest things to do is diagnose problems via e-mail etc. You appear to have some good basic knowledge of cars and seam to know what you are doing.
But now you are thinking drastically.
How about this as an idea, its not admitting defeat, how about just taking the car to somebody who knows the RV8 engine, like a garage or engine specalist. Yes it will cost some money, but it will save it in the long run. Zig has found that out after a lot of trying to sort problems! It will also save you from a lot more heart ache when the replacment engine arrives you convert it to fit in your car and it turns out to be a bag of nails!
Just my thoughts after seeing siimlar things happen!

Hi Ralph..Andy does have a point but fingers crossed you wont buy a s
te engine!!..I agree that i banged my head against a brick wall more than enough but in honesty even though some of the things i had done didnt solve the problem initially but helped avoid any future problems..They would of needed doing anyway!!..I think you have gone round in a massive circle splashing out on a carb set up when there was probably nothing wrong with the injection system..Who knows what this so called mechanic that ian used has done to that engine??..It could cost a good couple of grand to have it rebuilt and i only suggested a transplant purely based on the fact that you seem to know what you are doing and it would be cheaper in the long run for you to rebuild your existing engine and have some fun in the wedge while you are doing so..Here are a couple of numbers that might be of use..I really wish you some good fortune mate as you have been cracking away with a positive note for a while now..But to no avail..Ziga
Austec are around an hour away..

Or theres this guy who many could probably vouch for..The site is still under construction but his number is there..

Cheers Tank & zig
I have made contact just now ( how strange) and sourced a mechinic which has been recommend by a friend and he is coming around on the 1st may to have a look and see what the knocking noise is and will take it from there, in the mean time i will crack on with the chassis pianting and other works which i would like to complete.
Cheers

Well once you own a wedge and they start to get under your skin you become soul bound by the "fraternity of wedgedom"..It is a strange mystical but wonderous place where it can rip your soul from your body in an instant, Wrench out your heart and throw it in a fire and then lay you with harp playing angels..You will cry...Laugh..Drink..Eat and sleep wedge..And never forget.."We feel your pain brother"..
...doo doo doo do.. doo doo doo do..Its also very mad!!...
...
Good luck mate..Ziga
hi ralph, not to confuse you even more and i'm hardly in any better position to offer advice but i popped in to see dan at taylor tvr today to pick his brains (i think my amateur mechanics keep him amused but he's a nice bloke and very good at what he does).
his views were that if timing is set to TDC it should start but he did also tell me that he's come across rare occasions that the crank pulley has slipped and therefore making any markings useless so if you haven't already (and i'm guessing you probably have) at least check the piston is at TDC visually rather than relying on marks.
also the ignition is very fussy and he will only fit genuine lucas cap and rotor arm, cheaper ones can cause all sorts of problems even from new and aren't worth the bother.
i'm trying a few more things first, dropped AFM into BBA Reeman to be checked today, removed water pipes from under plenum that help cold start and blanked them off, but at this rate i'll be joining you and it'll be on the trailer and down to dan's!! (although only 5 miles down the road which is handy) but i do hate admitting to defeat!!!

Yep i do visually check the piston is a tdc, did he comment on turning the dizzy clock wise mate to get the car to running ??? and i,ll check the cap as it is new and dont look like a lucas one, so another tick of the list lol, am getting a mechinc to come and check the knocking noise as this is my main concern at the mo, hopefully it just the cam thats shot and i,ll just replace it, well here's hoping and you sound just like me, am like a bull in a china shop, i will not give me mate, this car will run if it kills me lol, keep intouch i would be very interested to know what your out come is and if you need any parts for your efi just give me a shout, i have the lot in my boot, so your welcome to whatever you need mate
