Strange sensation under braking. I can feel movement up front from the break pedal as though the gearbox or exhaust is moving about under load. Not sure what is. Anyone had a similar experience knowing what the cause is?

Seems like something is loose on a gearbox/engine mount. Could this be linked to worn bushes perhaps? I dunno where to look or what to look for!

It could be the rubbers that the gearbox sits on. They get dissolved by stray engine/ gearbox oil, so the engine/box can move around (more) on its front mountings.

Have you checked the diff bolts they always seem to rattle loose on mine they are the ones that hold the diff in place. Well worth a look

I suspected the mounts may be a bit worn and there's been an oil leak of sorts. How long would it take to dissolve were that the case as its only been happening off and on for over a year?

Hmmm.. dunno. You can probably reach the gearbox mounts if you lie alongside the car and grope underneath. They should be hard black rubber things. If they're soft, mushy blubbery things, they're history.

By coincidence I found some X-ray systems used same size mounts for vibration damping; some were duly purloined...

Yes, if only they made larger door-stops.
