Between the clutch pedal and master cylinder there's a threaded rod which allows pedal adjustment and ultimately the maximum throw of the clutch before it hits the carpet.

What are the rules for setting this up?

The only rule is you must have quarter of an inch free play.

That is there is a minimum of quarter of an inch of movement at the pedal before you feel resistance from the master cylinder.

Do not ignore the free play rule or your new clutch won't last long at all.

I checked my adjustment when i had the pedal box and cylinder out. It was adjusted so that when the pedal bottomed out on the pedal box the cylinder was just short of its full travel. Keeping the master cylinder from fully bottoming out will in my mind help protect the end seal.

Dave i cant see how you can adjust free play at the pedal end as the pedal is free swinging and just takes its position when coupled up to the rod.

Yeah I was thinking more about how far you can push the piston down, and whether if you push too far, you can press the release bearing in too hard, thereby pressing the friction plate baclk onto the flywheel?

I'm not familiar with the Wedge clutch pedal but I cant see it could possibly be any different to every other clutch mechanism I have ever encountered (hydraulic or cable).

Trust me they all need that free play, it's a basic rule that also appllies to your brake pedal.

Dial out that essential free play at your peril.

You don't adjust the free play at the pedal end, that wouldn't work now would it rolleyes

You measure your free play at the pedal.

You Wedgies kill me sometimes hehe

If you could get the release bearing to push the cluch plate on to the fly wheel on pressing the pedal, if so then the cluch is fubar and needs replaced and nothing to do with the pedal setup, you need that free play especially if you like having your foot sitting on the pedal.
