I have a 280i with 87k on it, What is the best oil to put in it the underbonnet plate recomends Castrol GTX is this ok, I generally dont drive that fast and dont really like fully synthetic as i think its too thin for older engines, I normally change my oil between 3-6k, and i dont want to fork out for really fancy oil. Any ideas

The GTX will be fine, as long as the viscosity is right 15W-50? or even 15W-40 although this will be a bit thinner at temperature

I'm using Valvoline "Racing" 20/50 in the 400 and the SEAC , holds the pressure well and only £17 for a gallon .

Racing or not on the label.Mineral or synthetic.Look at the viscosity.20W/50 is 20W/50 whether it is mineral or synthetic, one is not thinner than the other.
Synthetic will give better protection under extreme operating conditions.
Any good quality oil 15W/50 or 20W/50 mineral or synthetic is ok.
As Steve Heath would say "one for the oil police".

With the floppy piston rings on the SEAC the thicker the better. Crude oil would be good

I checked with Peninsular and they use Mobil 1 15w/50, so i have that in my 400.
May need a re-think though as it cost £70 for 8 litres at Hal'sfrauds
