Desperate measures, but...my wedge is fitted with the Tower View big brake upgrade with drilled and vented 300mm discs. It has great lumps of mondeo caliper (single piston, sliding carrier) which are adequate but I am ultimately planning a full system replacement, either Hispec of AP. However, in the meantime, one of the discs has cracked to the point where it really needs replacement. The difficulty is sourcing a new disc which neither I nor David Batty could immediately do. The closest I have come is Hispec who make a disc which is a 300mm Granada fitment but the disc height of 47mm does not give enough offset compared to the Mk1 Granada disc height which I think is c.70mm

So the long winded possibly stupid question is if I put a 20mm wheel spacer between the hub and the disc and bolt it together, will it (a) work and (b) kill me? The discs are sitting on my desk as very heavy paperweights and I am struggling to visualise the brake setup and therefore the inherent failings in this idea....

It may not be what you want to hear . . .

I would be tempted to put standard brakes back on - cheap parts and with decent pads perfectly adequate.

No more parts sourcing issues

I would agree with you but I should have mentioned it is really a 90% track car and should benefit from the better cooling of the larger disc - until it cracks! I find sourcing bits incredibly frustrating though...

I can't see how a single piston slider would be better than stock (2 opposing pistons). I have these on the Jeep and they are the only brakes I have ever known to bind on.

I agree with David, go back to stock and if you are paranoid about track day heat dissipation fit a water spray onto each disc. Works for monster trucks.

Wow! Now it takes some imagination to compare a Wedge with a Monster Truck... but I like the idea. smile

Can you have two brackets machined to adapt to 300mm/your caliper combination, was crossing my mind.
Perhaps someone can help you to find a friendly machine shop to do this.
