Yeah im fairly sure you need a 14CUX for the hotwire.

4CU is for the flapper, 14CU(X) is the hotwire version.

ETA: the 4CU is silver with the covers held by 6 screws; the 14 is black with only 4 screws.

Imo you would be foolish to spend money on any 14cu(x)

Just plug a aftermarket ecu in place, saves alot of stress in the long run and the improved fuel consumption would probably pay it self back in a year

Just cut the old plug off and solder the new 6inch loom that comes with the mega squirt

Has it really. I'd like to see a pic of the inside of it then. It's impossible to 'chip' a 4CU. It conceivably might have a piggyback board added but in standard form it doesn't have a fuel map in the way that the 14CUX et al do it.
The 4CU is an analogue computer based on two Ferranti ICs that were designed for the job - so you can't plug anything else in in place of them.

Photo is rubbish, and I can't post it...so

"Lucas Part No: 83986A Type 4CU Date: 16th Nov. '04
Lucas Serial No: 9478HPD MFG 4987 Serial: XED-89210-RVVT
3.9 Litre - Standard Injectors & AFM Calibration 0792/0920 E-DRIVE
TWO YEAR WARRANTY - INVALID IF SEALS BROKEN

Austec Racing Tel: +44(0)1 293 53 10 80

on the right side of the label is a cartoon Hedgehog with "Happy

On the top is an IBM Sticker with Dave Knight (AUSTEC)
