Looks as though my windscreen is starting to delaminate (see picture below). To the untrained eye it looks minimal. Any ideas how long this will this take to get worse? As the vehicle is now under cover 24/7 and will not be taken out in the rain again I'm wondering whether to bother at all. Of course I do plan to bribe the umpa lumpa's to wash the car occasionally. Any advice gratefully accepted as always?

It can take literally years for the milky bit to move into the visible area, but that time you will have had a stone chip necessitating a renewal.

While we are on the subject mine has a small area that has what looks like ice inside the glass, I take it that this is starting the de-laminating process!!..Out of curiosity here would you purchase a windscreen for a wedge?..Hopefully i wont need to yet but by the sound of it i better get saving just in case..Cheers..Ziga

A wedge screen is not as pricey as you might be thinking.

You just need to know someone who's not too far from SE London.

wink

I heard that if you apply a half gallon of petrol and then a match to the milky area, the problem mysteriously goes away... don't try this at home, kids!

Here is a picture AFTER the "sun visor" was removed. New windscreen it is then. I've been quoted about £250 for a replacement. I thought that was quote reasonable. Should I snap his hand off????

How much do you think I'd think was pricey?

Is that fitted?..Sounds like a good deal..How is your trim on the inside of the windscreen pillars as it would be a good time to replace if its needed..Ziga

the SX had a small area of delamination in one corner, then i was on the freeway to sydney and a stone hit it, the insurance covered it in full, it cane from Belgium of all places and probably cost more than 250 quid......
And i did the trim inside and had the frame resprayed while the screen was out.

Don't bother with the weatherstrip - the last lot was from TVRCarparts and the windscreen place couldn't make it fit, so they just used black mastic like the later cars.

Have you seen any of his/their work / spoke to someone who's had one done by him/them?

A quote of ~£250 fitted? Has he got the right car?

Quite right - someone was doing them at Wedgefest around £160-£180 ish a car.

So £250 seems a bit steep, especially bearing in mind the insurance excess is £60 usually, if it got damaged.

Also there hardly seems any point in paying out much more, cos you could get a stone chip the very next day, and have to get an insurance job anyways...

Start by finding out how much a windscreen costs to buy from someone like Racing Green.

Fitting time: two to four hours (including the second visit).

I've seen the cheaper end of the scale and long may they continue - they make us look good.

What do you mean "And i did the trim inside"?

Paul (Glassman) has fitted a new screen in my SEAC.

Highly recommended.

He's based in N. London but of course is mobile.

He has a list of trusted independent professional screen fitters so send him a pm if you'd like to contact him.

Pilkington have the screens in any colour combo (screen/top tint you want.

We found out too late that they also offer one with a built-in heating element.

Now that would be nice.
