I fit comfortably into my 280 FHC (I'm 6' 6" and a fat bastard) and because of this always considered the wedges fairly 'roomy' cars at least as far as 2 seater sports cars go. I use mine daily (or did before the accident - still a couple of weeks at least until I get her back) and it's fine. I've never sat in another wedge though, only mine.
Now I have a friend that once had a go of a 350 FHC and he said he was cramped as hell. He's not exactly small but a good deal smaller than I am. I understand that people have different expectations and driving positions, but from the way he talks it sounds like the interior had much less room than mine. Mine's at RT at the moment so he can't have a sit in it to compare.
Is there a difference? I know the door panels are different in the 350s, but I would have thought that would have made much of a difference. Is the tunnel even wider for the Rover box? Is he just a whining sod? I always had it in the back of my mind to move up the wedge ladder at some point, but now I'm concerned that a diet and shin amputation may be required for it!

Later cars got more sound insulation, so may make the cockpit seem narrower. Also, some people have raising blocks under the seat runners which may make a taller person feel closer to the roof.
My car has an OMP Quadro steering wheel with a 'flat' bottom, which gives more thigh room (previous owner was also generously dimensioned
).

I feel qualified to post on this thread.
I'm 6'7" and have a very early 350i which has the same door panels as the 1983 280i.
I like my snug cockpit.
I've noticed that some later 350's have door handles which protrude further into the legroom. I wouldn't find that comfortable.
It'd be nice if I could move the pedal box forward a couple of inches, but I'm not planning any major glassfibre surgery.
