I've decided to do away with my Gucci Header Tank as it is not up to the job. I want to revert back to the old system and would like to know which Ford the header tank was used for V8 Wedges. Thanks

Can't you get the Capri one and blank off the extra feed with a short piece of hose - if you clamp a bolt into the hose it will be watertight. You won't notice the stub of hose under the tank.

I can confirm that the expansion tank fitted to series 1 350i is Triumph part number ARH 259 as fitted to Rover SD1, Triumph toledo, also very similar on London taxi but without the level sensor which isnt used on the wedge anyway.
Its the type that feeds from the bottom i.e one pipe only.

Hi

I think this is incorrect, its off a Ford Capri, but would be happy to be proved incorrect!

Hi Mate..Perhaps yours has been modified but i cant see why you would have an expansion tank if its unable to expand???..Surely having only one feed begs the question "How does it return to the expansion tank"??...

Although thinking about it if yours is like the first drawing then the expansion tank would be just that..When the water expands it partially fills the header and when cooling it draws it back to the rad..In which case it acts as a catch tank and the overflow from the radiator neck will be the only hose going into the tank..

Like this maybe..

I have this (probably wrong) memory that the 2.3 Cortina looked quite like those photos too....
Perhaps it WAS the same, being a Cologne block ?

And Zig, there's quite a lot of vehicles which used to have only a single feed expansion tank.

Some had the tank after the pressure cap so they weren't pressurised (those caps with the insert return valve). (6 cyl Triumphs, Scimitar ...)

and if it's connected on the pressure side (i.e. direct to rad somewhere), it only needs one pipe too, as water will get sucked back when it cools down...

Ralph

The washer bottle feed is the system overflow. The early 350i just let the overflow to the front of the car and droped it onto the floor.
Later cars had this pipe into a bottle under the header tank, (Yes it's the same as a washer bottle but is not) which added as a catch tank, when hot the water flowed into the bottle and the water then recycles back into the system when it cools down!
Your post hints as you think it's the washer bottle, no its not, put windscreen cleaning fluid in this you would have a lovely clean water system! hehe
