Getting the seats in my 350i re- trimmed, can't decide whether to keep them original or go for Bentley type cross stitch pattern.

It's down to you Chris because some folk will like it and some will not like it.

I guess it's 'horses for courses!' My Driver's seat has all but collapsed, and I don't know if I should try and rebuild it, or re-trim and fit MX5 or MGTF seats...I have an MX5, and the seat is comfy, and will fit...PS, I like the quilted look, but I will probably retain the original look, if that's any help??confused

I actually like the quilted look though I would keep it confined to the seat centres and partially done on the door cards....

Personally...And it is all down to personal taste as said...I love the look of the wedge seats when they are either colour coded with front and back in-between sections trimmed in contrasting colours or a plain colour with contrasting piping..Bit like these..(I hope no-one minds)

Cream with body-coloured piping looks brilliant on virtually any TVR imo.

I just wanted to do something different, my idea was to have the cross stiching done in blue (the car colour)which would look great against the light grey leather. I wasn't planning to do any other part of the cabin in the same pattern as I think it will look too much in such a small space.
Thanks for all you views, it always helps to bounce ideas around.

You should always do what you want to do...Not what other people want you to do..When i was about to replace my coolant hoses my mate was barking in my earhole..Red..Got to be red...But i have enough red in there so i decided on blue..Even though he said "It will look awful"..Its what i wanted and i think it looks good..Besides who's frigging car is it???... smile

As always, you have to bear in mind that the further away from original you get, the smaller your market when you come to sell.

The last but one of Zigs pics is mine! I had the seats professionally retrimmed about 2 1/2 years - cost a fair few quid and had to import leather from Italy to get a proper colour match to the rest of the trim but makes all the difference.

You think not? How many people would buy a Wedge if it had Fiesta seats, Skoda Rapid wheels and a Coventry Climax forklift engine? wink

Different is not necessarily better. As I recall, more people were 'against' the 'BadBoy' look than 'for' it the other year.

Seats...Im going to be honest....I should never of thrown out my old seats, By now i could of re-foamed them..Obtained new front bolsters and either bought covers from lakewell or saved up and had them re-trimmed..The only reason being is that they were made for the car and the height they were set at is obviously perfect for the wedge..The seats i have now are really comfy and yes they look good and im happy in general with them but would like to of at some point put the originals back in..frown

I think it's personal choice too...

Given the wide range of rear end (ok - Arse) sizes and different back sizes, get something which is comfortable for YOU. Keep the originals if you've got the room, and worry about resale. Or not.

I often end up thinning down the seat squab in sports (and Kit) cars because I'm tall and not exactly thin...and my head ends up in the breeze, or touching the soft top/ roof.... Done that in the wedge to the original seats.

There's some surpisingly good seats in some otherwise ordinary cars - I've always been impressed by how good Volvo seats are for example. But that's for me, you might find them terrible.

I think it was Mr Porsche who said " A seat is designed by sitting in it". Good advice I think.
