As there's not a decent quality wrap vinyl available in Mica Blue I'm gonna have to improvise. Quite taken with the flip colour in the photo but part of me is thinking 'be more traditional the flip is not in keeping with the Wedge image' nono. I thought the prepping was going to be the worst job but the colour decision is worse confused It's going in next week so better sort my head out soon........headache

Did you have crazing in the laquer finish before you started rubbing down Mike, how straight forward has it been to get it smooth,by hand or machine?

No crazing John but plenty of gelcoat cracks though around stress areas on bonnet and corners of light apertures, edges of wheel arches. Also multitude of stone chips on bonnet, front valance and flared leading edges of wheel arches. All gelcoat cracks were treated to a session with a grinding attachment on a mini-drill to v-groove the cracks followed by gelcoat filler, smoothed out with a delta sander and finished off with those black block sanders from B&Q and the like. Some reinforcement behind weaker areas with that fibreglass stranded filler. All heavily sanded areas were sprayed with high-build primer then finished off with sanding blocks over all the body. B****y hard work but hopefully worth it when you cant see blemishes in the wrap. I don't know, the things you do to save money.....

The thing is you have now done a lot of the work which would have been done for a respray, so the cost differance is now a lot closer. A respray will then be in the long run better value for money!

True Andy, I take your point, but I'm pretty sure my prep would make a professional cringe. Good and flat for the wrap but a lot more work for a top notch paint job methinks.

Ha ha,

three responses and none of them re the colour ! How wedgelike !!

I like it mike, although if it is meant to be one of those colour changing ones, i cant see that in the picture.

The "silver-blue" (i think) will look outstanding, particularly against the (my favourite preffered) blue roof.

Don't envy you the selection process tho mike !!

Gutted i'm not at the fest, as i would be making a b-line for your car.

I see you are in Hamps, so would love to drop by for a look over the summer as i go to a mate in Haselmere sometimes.

Hi. You're welcome to view if you're in Hants, just let me know. Just don't assume you'll be looking at a flip colour scheme. Doh!

Must admit I expected more responses like 'sacrilege, you can't do that to a Wedge you heathen' even 'yuk'. Never mind, those not watching the Queen while it's raining will resort to staring at Pistonheads sometime over the weekend lol

IMHO the problem with the Wedge is that it's not curvy enough for the light to diffract through the flip-flop. I had the same isssue with my £800 Rosso Pearl respray, there were only a few angles and certain lighting that made it work properly.

Mmm. I thought that too. But that small patch I put on the rear quarter changes from Blue to Green'ish just walking past it. I don't think the shape will do it full justice though. Just like the idea of something different in the absence of a Midnight Blue metallic. things are never straight forward are they? lol. BTW £800 for the respray was well cheap wasn't it?

What colour is your interior Mike?

I also have a Mica Blue Wedge and would love to have it Yellow
but it wouldn't suit my cream interior.

What about that chrome wrap? - that must suit the angles of a Wedge

Interior is dark blue carpet and cream/beige half leather. Don't think that will go with chrome somehow!! yikes Would need very dark cool Think I'll stick with some kind of blue

Hi Mike

I personally prefer darker or bolder colours on a wedge. How about royal blue? smile

btw I can recommend a good and reasonably priced prof sprayer in N Dorset if you change your mind on wrapping and want to keep the original colour.
