OK, just got 2 newish headlamps, as the old ones actually fell in two - the glass separated from the lens!
The operation of the lift motors had been strange but ok ( the nearside lifting twice before settling).
HOWEVER, went to the last Earls Barton meet and, as anyone who attended will recall,on the way home to Northampton the River Nene diverted to the A45!
It was so wet that an overtaking BMW........raised that much water into the nosecone it soaked the foam air filter causing the car to misfire.
Consequently come MOT time, (now) both lift motors are ruined, rusted, kaput - as are both horns and all accompanying wiring.
So if any of you have one or two working lift motors in the garage - please, help get the old ba****d back on the road.
One good thing though - I'm going to be fitting airhorns and a new centre mounted horn button!! - might not need headlamps!

Hi Mate..Forget the horn push..What you need is one of these..
..hehe

If you have no joy with a second hand set of motors then there is this place that was kindly passed on to me by a fellow wedger..
Seems that the prices have gone up though...If your motor has a round plug fitting then its..RKC822R or square..PKC1287AR

Brilliant, many thanks - pricey but not silly money.
Great pic - trouble is, if you fit that to a TVR it would :-
a - stick on automatic fire when open.
b - stick on automatic fire - when closed.
c - Jam - until you attempted to fix it and then (refer to a or b).
d - the ammunition would be obsolete - except for one manufacturer in Uzbekistan - who'll only supply one million rounds at a time!

scratchchin...True..I did have a bit of a mishap when the mechanism jammed and then went off just as i ducked in front of it in the garage..

I have scrapped that idea and now im working on a side mounted missile pack..
..
Although i think i should maybe find somewhere a bit less urbanised in which to test it in..

I have quite a few spares for the headlamp motors but sadly none in working order: I may be able to rebuild yours though if you get stuck?

In case no-one has thought of it yet, those pod motors are just plain ordinary boring old windscreen wiper motors with extra bits bolted on. (well OK, the 'head' is different, but motor itself is identical....)

I reckon it's possible to do a rebuild from various bits of wiper motors and pod motors....

Interesting - given the relatively little use they get compared to wipers (especially in Wales), they should last for ever! Any ideas what the wiper motors are off?

They are the same as TR7 headlamp motors, you can get them from Rimmer Bros (expensive) or Robsport (a bit cheaper) or even Ebay, just check whether you need the round or square ekectrical connection
hope this helps Colin

They are indeed... in fact at least as far back as the E-type Jag you'll find old Brit cars with the same wiper motor!

Thanks guys,
Northampton Motorsport (where the wedge "rests" at the moment)have found two recon units for a very reasonable price (oh, yeah!)
So may still make our regional lunch run on Saturday.
Again, thanks for all the info,
Jez.

Yeah, I've got a spare from a Triumph Saloon, which is identical motor bits, different top, But also one from a Hillman Hunter. Yeah - but don't laugh yet.... It's an arm driver type, and I could swear that the Hunter 'head' part is actually identical to the pod motor one, apart from the extra casing for the limit switches, which probably bolts on anyway, AND IT FITS PERFECTLY on the TVR mounting... too much of a coincidence ? I think not.

So I reckon probably any Lucas 'arm' types (i.e. not cable) are probably good sources of bits.

(A sudden massive demand for Hillman Hunter wiper motors ? Hmmmm....)
