ck does my gear lever wobble around so much when i'm driving?

I have renewed the remote linkage bushes with poly and renewd the gearbox bobbin mounts.

I had a look last night and there is possibly a little play where the gear lever goes into the 'cup' which seems to be held down by a metal spring clip.

Engine seems solid enough on its mounts.

Any ideas?

just changed my remote lingage bushes too and they made a big difference but were a pig to fit and i had to add some extra washers!! does the cradle feel solid if you get hold of it from underneath the car?

There is a plastic springloaded plunger under the round metal cap at the bottom of the gearstick. If worn, no spring or missing it allows movement you do not want.

I had this problem on a TR7 with the rover 5 speed box and it was indeed the bush/plastic cup under the metal cup if that makes sense to you.

Just bought replacement cup and spring from rimmer bros
