Whack the door skin with your fist while you're using the switch - it will free up.

Yep, it's from the SD1.

Some Wedges had the motor quadrant butchered to act as a height limit: either a couple of teeth were bent sideways to jam the thing rolleyes or they drilled though and used a nut & bolt.

Stu that would be greatly appreciated, it would save me messing about on Ebay. Do you know if they are the same for both sides or not?

I have a similar problem with the drivers side, it has the quadrant teeth bent to act as a stop, but when it hits the stop it jams solid with the plastic spline partly pushed out, so I guess its worn inside, thanks for the info I will look for a replacement.

I beleive they are SD1 front units, and they are left and right handed.

You can use rear ones too at a pinch, but you have to butcher the arms/steelwork to get it to work right for the front..

Driver's side on mine was not only worn out on the toothed wheel pivots, but also the motor was very weak, took it to bits and discovered it needed new brushes - cobbled up a set from somewhere else and it's now a useful spare.

Couldn't find a front unit here in NZ, so used a rear and modified it. (a bit of drilling and welding and hey presto !!)

I found that my driver's side winder was so worn (See below) that it makde the glass judder like hell when going down.

The shaft rotates in a stamped 'boss' rather than any sort of proper bearing; it was only going to end in tears.

Wow, mine wasn't THAT bad on the teeth, but the centre pivot on the wheel, and the motor too were both elongated tried welding it up, but it doesn't really work.
