SEAC went for it's MOT and failed on the emissions at idle. The garage owner who I have known for 30 years said its so bad it went off the scale. It's not idling very well either. Lumpy and hunting.

When I picked it up from Steve it ran fine for over 200 miles. It didnt use that much petrol and the oil seems ok.

The exhaust is quite 'sooty' though, again this is much more apparent at start up when cold.

I checked the stepper motor which seemed ok.

Any ideas?
Thank you
John

Its not failed on c02 since its been altered , thats two years ago at least ! Usually handbrake fails. Also one would think if its overfuelling it wouldn't idle at all ?

It failed on the rear caliper sticking and the handbrake and something catching the diff also Steve (a pipe from the tank needs moved).

The emissions has me confused as it doesnt seem to be using excessive fuel and not much oil. I have spoken to Steve Guglielmi about the car and he said it hadn't failed on anything similar last year. I have tried to speak with Eann Whalley @ Torque V8 but he hasnt replied yet.

The problem seems to be when its cold and 'idling'

Rag it up the street a couple of times and go for a short run and then take it for the Mot.

Steve he needs to do it just before the MOT get it very hot then the CO etc will be less, this normally works!

When I used to get mine serviced and MOT's at the same time, the service guy used to increase the idle a touch. I think one year he put it upto 1200 rpm as the hydrocarbons were on the limit then knock it back down again afterwards.

I know you said the car ran well for the 200 mile trip home but i would check all the normal things that can cause these problems...
Water temp sensor, throtal pot voltage,, timming...
Do you know how much the car has been used, if its not ran much as its been said before the you should run the car hot to clear it out.
This is why i changed out the old lucas system..

Good luck

The car has a new induction system fitted :

I have the old chip and kit, not sure about trying it back on though?

Mods this isnt meant as an advert - I have no affiliation with the company, just trying to make sense of whats going wrong.

The mot emissions test is always done with the engine hot.

You might want to check the cables are all attached, air flow, ecu etc .. as it might just be something simple.
