After getting rid of the ineffective SH coilover conversion for the front suspension, I'm off back to GAZ to get my car sorted as I'm not happy with the ride. Despite the many tweaks and adjustments to the shocks I still can't get the car to put its power down without feeling as though I riding on a fekking camel!!

The car oscillates bouncing up and down and I'm suspecting the spring rates are too soft. 250lb on the rear with 720lbs on the front. Sometimes don't you wish you just left things as they were.....???

Hi Andy
As discuss that video on here showed that all the cars bounced when power was put down, problem is if you go to hard then the ride becomes even more bouncy and uncomfortable, i think in most cases the stock set up is best, remember mate its an old car and will never be as controlled, good luck, hope you get it sorted, cheers Ralph

Blimey! i'm not sure of the front spring rates, but 250 lbs on the rear does sound quite high. SEAC's were only 200lb on the rear as std., and my 390 has 190lb springs. 350's were around 160 i think...

The spring rates don't sound to be a mile out. It sounds more like it may need more damping possibly? Just as a comparison, my old Tasmin 2.9 race car has 950lb springs on the front and 425lb springs on the back and only weighed in at 970kg. Handled exceptionally well but I wouldn't like to have driven it on the road hehe

I would agree with NTEL more damping possibly after all one of the masters of handling - LOTUS lived by the saying SOFT SPRINGS, HARD SHOCKS. It means you will get a bit more rolling/pitching/diving BUT it is all well controlled with the added benefit of a decent ride quality.

Thanks for the comments guys I know it's only a matter of tweaking. I get despondent when an expert sells you something on the premise it will resolve your problem only to find that it doesn't after you spent precious time installing the upgrade. We'll see what the GAZ people say next week eh?
