Hi Mate..Thats how it is...If you can use something to gently move it to feel if its springy as there is a spring behind it, If its stiff then it is probably gunked up...While it is out can you use a hair dryer and on a low heat setting to warm up the circular part only, The slider should slowly close the opening...Once this has happened place the unit in the fridge for a couple of minutes and it should open again..You can use lighter fluid..(petrol) to clean it but only use a little..Cover one end and squirt some in then cover the other end and then shake it gently..repeat a few times...But if its opening and closing then the mechanicals are working...Ziga

This is fully open.

Hi mate..The auxillary air device is for cold start..When its open it by-passes the air flow meter/sensor plate which allows an additional air/fuel mixture which increases the idle..When the engine warms the AAD closes slowly and the idle should settle gradually until normal operating temperature is reached..If its stuck open then you would have a bit of a high idle and slightly rich running..If its stuck closed then you would have a cold start issue..Hot starting issues normally relate to the accumulator as this holds the fuel pressure when switched off..It also smooths out any pulsations from the fuel pump and helps prevent vapour lock which is what yours sounds like..Unfortunately these systems are not that easy to diagnose but there are main components that can be checked for operation...The accumulator also helps to ensure that the control plunger inside the fuel metering head is returned to the closed position...Checking the accumulator is an easy task..As i mentioned before..Un-plug the green plug on the metering head..Clamp the fuel line going from the N/S or front of the accumulator to the front of the car/metering head then turn the ignition on to the first position..Not cranking..Then have a look at the rear of the accumulator and if you see petrol dripping then the unit is faulty..You can by-pass the accumulator and the car will run ok..It might be better also if this is the case to leave the green plug off for now so that fuel pressure is acheived a couple of seconds after you switch on..Dont leave the ignition on for long periods without the engine running as this can shorten the life of the fuel pump.

Actually thinking about it you could also clamp the fuel hose going to the fuel filter in the engine compartment as this is the hose from the accumulator..As you can see from the drawing the feed from the pump can be connected to the feed to the fuel filter by-passing the accumulator..Leave some hose on the accumulator fittings..(2) and cap of with a bolt and jubilee clip or join together..You will need a connector for the join between the pump and filter hose, I think it is 6mm..I will check unless you can see any writing on both hoses. You can leave the breather on the rear of the accumulator, If you need to replace it i can forward the details of a refurbing company to you for the accumulator..AAD..WUR..metering head..pump & filters...Cheers...Ziga
