Hi Guys
Well have started to using the car and a few items don't seem quite right to me, but i could be wrong

Gearbox wine, mine does this mostly in second gear???

Drive train shunt, pretty bad at the rear off the car?

Clutch rattle, car had a new clutch when i fitted the engine?

Running temp, were should this be on the gauge as mine is running just below the red line but don't seem that hot when i remove the expansion cap?? could this be an incorrect reading from the temp sender??

Cheers

Hi Ralph..When you say drivetrain shunt is it like the clunk you get when you put an automatic car into gear?..When this was happening to me it was the propshaft failing...
This was mine after it snapped!
.

The temperature gauge is as i said due to the fact that you didnt match the sender with the gauge, They have matching ohms..Mine is the same as i did it too. Mine reads 210 on the gauge but is only 85..
Mine at normal OT.

You can earth out the sender but it never worked for me..Either change the sender for the correct type or get used to where it settles on the gauge..You should invest in the temperature controller for the fan as well...Ziga

Hey Zig, have just noticed that your gauge is indicating in degrees Fahrenheit.
where 210 degrees = 98 degrees Celsius which aint too far out.

Hi Mate..It normally goes a couple of notches up from that when it has reached normal operating temp but when i stuck a probe thermometer in there it was only reading 85-86..The fan kicks in shortly after that at around 87-88 and then drops down again to 85-86..Cheers..Ziga

Hi Ralph

what can i say about your determination, great

Any light knocking from the back wheels would identify that the drive shafts UJs are pasted their best and as Zig has identified the couple of UJs on your prop all could be the clunk (if the drive shaft UJs would recommend changing them all)

clutch rattle.......does it go when you depress the clutch, if it does and you know its a new clutch unfortunalety likely to be a shagged gear box, just having to remove the engine again myslf from a problem posted by the one finger banit on a car we are trying to finish.

hopefully i am wrong (normally are)

best of luck

The shunt could also be the diff - you can have a fair amount of backlash. You need to rotate the rear wheels in gear to find out where it's coming from.

Evening Guys
Many thanks for all your kind replies. Hotty, Zig and Adamthumbup

Well fixed the temp gauge, by exchanging the new temp sensor with the old one and the gauge now reading around the 90 mark, so an easy fix, cheers Zig

The gearbox shifts ok, but it does whine in 2nd & 3rd gear at low speed, so i think i,ll try a oil change for the time being and replace the all the mounts.

The clutch is more off a creaking as its depressed and released, there is some rattle, but not really that bad, I may try a new slave to see if that eases the problem.

The drive train after driving it a few more miles appears to be a lot better, i think i,ll check the prop and also check the diff, which appears to be ok, so an change oil and a good grease up and lets see what happens after.

Any ideas where i can get a descent gearbox guys, if i need to replace

Regards

Ralph

You are probably feeding him too much and he is getting lazy...getmecoat
Sometimes its better to get the old gearbox rebuilt...At least that way you know it fits..Has new parts and is under warranty..With second hand you could be buying a pile of!!...Ziga
