Had a look in the bible, it appears there is a boot solenoid fuse.
Where might this fuse live, so I can check it?
There appears to be no 'other' wink way in either.
Tia chaps.

Btw, stock 350i on an '89 plate. smile

Well yes, I know, but as Jock said, it's why we don't keep valuables in there.

I have been running round for 18 months with a cable tie hanging down from censored which i attached to the cable so just have to pull cable tie to open boot. finally decided to sort the faulty switch out but have left cable tie there for emergencies.

Sorry, didn't mean to instigate a 'how to beak in' thread. smile

Back on track, could anyone kindly tell me where this solenoid fuse is located?

No problem. I scanned the 400 manual. If anyone wants it, I'll put a link up.

Ok, I'm in the boot now. It appears I have the same layout of relays/fuses as yourself JM.
No. 6 fuse also covers the heater fan which works plus the door mirrors, so it ain't that. Have tried another relay, still no joy.
Will check feed & earth to solenoid tomorrow.

Got a meter? My solenoid has been changed. They do fail. I assume its not actuating when you do the usual? Tried the switch?

No meter I'm afraid. You are correct, it's not actuating, so I figure if I can guarantee the feed and the earth to it I shall know if it's knackered or not. Haven't tried the switch tho, think I'll do that first now. Good call!

Multi meters are cheap now, might be worth a punt. Even a bulb set up will help. I would not assume that stuff on the same circuit is proof it is volts getting there. In my case the solenoid was operating but very weak and the meter confirmed good earth and battery.
