My Trip to BNG

My Trip to BNG
Friday morning was a warm and sunny day with blue skies. I was overcome by excitement as this was the day for the BNG and such good weather. I started loading up the car (TVR 400SE) with the overnight bags and a little more as we were staying for the two nights and return on the Sunday after the planned Wedge photo shoot. I spent most of the day preparing and loading the car. I took the day off work and waited for the Mrs. to finish her work at the local school before we could set off. We didn’t leave until late afternoon and took almost four hours driving up from London. The Wedge was well loaded, as along with everything else I had packed my Elvis gear in preparation for the Saturday night entertainment. We arrived just as it started to get dark and checked in at the hotel. We were tired, exited and hungry so we booked the hotel restaurant for the evening meal. The meal was excellent, we then went up to our room, unpacked, took a shower and then came down to the lobby to meet a fellow Wedger where we spent the rest of the evening drinking and chatting at the bar about the following days scheduled events, before going up to bed.
Saturday morning was another glorious day. We got up early and went down to breakfast after which we met up with other club members and drove down to the aerodrome where the BNG event was to be held. The field was full of TVR’s of all descriptions. I had been to other TVR events previously but this was something else. The event was on an aerodrome so there were light aircrafts for people to see and try out, there was a bar in the clubhouse and food was served hot and cold. There were places outside to sit and enjoy a drink or a meal and the atmosphere was just beyond description. As the day progressed the field filled up with performance cars of all descriptions. There was excitement in the air as some drivers were preparing to take their cars on to the track for a blast and then there was the speed 12 to see and hear in all its glory and various other rare TVR’s to see and talk about. I walked around talking to other TVR owners and looking at their cars and just generally talking to people and making friends. I was offered a lift to the runway (race track) in a Cerbra which was an exciting experience, but when we reached the run way I left him to it. Travelling at 150mph is not my personal idea of fun, but hey, some people love it. The one thing I had forgotten to pack was the sun cream as the day went on it got hotter and hotter in more than one sense. Though I didn’t go on the track with my Wedge, I managed to take photos of others in their TVR taking it to its limits. A lot was happening and all too much to take in. There was a raffle with some exiting prizes and all sorts of things going on, combined with the lovely weather we had a hell of a day.
Then came the evening. Our hotel was a mile down the road from the evening entertainment, so we got ready and arrived at the venue a little early. There was a DJ there running the disco, I did my Elvis number later on in the evening and we all had a laugh, it was good fun. The evening meal was very nice and well posh. Me and the Mrs. left the venue around midnight and headed for our hotel nearby. When we got to our hotel there was a crowd of people sitting in the lobby drinking. As I walked in, one lady, (a little smarter than the rest), asked me if I am an Elvis singer. When I replied that I was the ‘Elvis Singer’ she said “well go on then sing us a quick song”. Now, I can understand people asking me to sing a song on the spur of the moment, but what I don't understand is, if I had told her that I was a ‘Gynaecologist’ would she then have asked me for a quick examination? I think not. There is a time and place for everything but some people are too ignorant to understand.
The following day was Sunday and another warm sunny day. This was the day of the photo shoot for the Wedge calendar with the lovely young ladies. I just couldn’t wait. We arrived around ten thirtyish in the morning and already there were a load of cars parking up. Everything was well organised and we were shown to the Wedge area. There were about fourteen Wedges in all and it wasn’t long before the young models arrived and the photo shoot was well under way. I am looking forward to the new Wedge calendar as I know from last time Zig did a fine job and I’m sure he won’t let us down. We left the photo shoot mid afternoon and headed back home on a four hour drive back to London. I would like to thank Richard (Trickie Dickie) and everyone else involved in organising such a wonderful event, and may there be many more….
