Hi

Simon has had the 450SE for the last couple of days, and he is having a over fueling problem with it (Thats some of the reason we had a starting problem last week) mainly when its cold! We will sorted it, but we were wondering if anybody else has had the same problem and what fix did you do!

Try disconnecting the cold start injector (did they have them on the hotwires?) and replace the coolant temp sensor, which can give eratic readings to the ecu - they're cheap enough- I think around £10.

On my car, a mere 350i, the ECU was at fault. Resoldered and now appears OK, but I've obtained another ECU to try if it happens again.

Hi

Its a hot wire, if it wasn't then I would automaticly disconect the cold start injector but as its a hot wire no injector!
Its behaving as the choke is on (like a cold start injector) when it gets hot its not so bad!

Check the fuel pressure. On the 390 it should run at 38 psi. My reg was adjustable but since it looked original I replaced it with a standard unit from Rimmers problem sorted.idea

Andy, I had a similar problem when picking up my (hotwire) 400SE from having some work done at RT Racing one time...previously ran perfectly.

I was near enough to return the car to Richard and after much testing and mucking about, it was put down to a wire that over the years had gone brittle with the underbonnet temperatures.

Now unfortunately I can't remember exactly which part/sensor it was affecting, but anyway, he cured it...no more refusing to start because of over-fueling.

It might be worth giving him a call.

not sure if the hot wire has a power resistor pack (little metal box under bonnet attached to passenger wing), this can corrode inside and send wrong voltage to injectors. i opened mine up and gave circuit board and terminal connectors a good clean. there is a test you can do for resistance on injectors. http://www.vintagemodelairplane.com/pages/Download...

My throttle pot had shifted so it was starting from what it thought was mid rev range. Multi meter and sorted.

Hi

Now a simple question, what spark plugs do people recommend for the 450. We replaced the plugs on Sat but think they may be the incorrect ones, hence the question.

Hi Dave

Thats what we are finding the 7ES in the car were badley sooted up, we fitted a new set on Sat and they are already sooted up, we think because the electrode is enclosed in the plug. We think they need to be more exposed!

Andy - is the ECU on this one the 14CUX?

BWT don't bin the old plugs - I have a friend who's got access to a plug sandblaster - they come up lovely.

Hi Adam

I persume its a 14CUX as its a hot wire car!

Simon is fitting a different plugs as recomended and will see if the same thing happens!

Not having a hotwire myself, put the stepper motor is mentioned often.
Could this cause overfuelling? If yes, probably worth a clean, investigation etc.

NGK B7ECS - used them for over 20 years in Wedges without any problems - gapped to 35 thou IIRC.
