Can be a lose connection in the white plug (junction of wires, sorry for my english skills!) under your steeringcolum, if you take a look you will see a lot of wires and the white (could be an other colour in your car)plug, try pressing it and turn the key.

Good luck!

Is the battery now flat? if it is maybe the diode has gone in the alternator which would then drain the battery even if the ignition is off. Usually the ignition light will glow with the key out when this happens.
Or i could be totally wrong (again)
A bit more detail would help.

Sounds very similar to a problem I had last year. My car would start OK and run fine until I buried the throttle at which point it popped, banged and misfired. Ease back on throttle and ran OK but next morning absolutely nothing, not even an ignition light. Charged battery and all was well for a few miles until it started over again but this time noticed that voltmeter had dropped from 13+ volts to just under 12. Turned out to be faulty alternator even though charging light not illuminated at any time.

What can happen is the diode blows which allows current to flow "backwards"(diodes are like one way switches) causing the battery to drain. The ignition light will be out when your driving but glow when the ignition is off. Battery drains and ignition light obviously goes out. You need to look for the light on before you get out of the car to find this one.
