Flapper fuel pipe / pressure / idle question
Discussion
I have just replaced the aux air valve, as the old one was not working and I suspect has not been for some time. Idle now normal/steady cold and hot - was previously ticking over at 1350rpm when hot but very low or no idle when cold (and the idle adjustment was screwed pretty much right down).
Feeling pleased with myself for resolving that, I then noticed within a minute or two that the little pipe (about 5 inches long) running from the underside of plenum chamber (drivers side) to the fuel pressure regulator appears to have started weeping.
Would the changing of the aux air valve affect this, or is it just a coincidence? Would the fuel pressure or regulator pressure be higher with a normal idle at hot, than a high idle at hot? Or is it just a slightly perished pipe that I was lucky to spot whilst the bonnet was up?
Thanks.

Chris,
I can't see that doing anything with the aux air valve will affect the fuel pipe to the pressure regulator; although simply ferreting around in the area may have dislodged it slightly. Best sort it quickly though, you don't want fuel leaking out over the engine!
The bad news is that there's quite a few short rubber hoses in the fuel system under the plenum chamber, and if one has perished then the others probably aren't far behind. It's not expensive or difficult to relace them all but it does take time and patience.
If you're lucky it might just be a loose clip - when I took all mine off one of the clips had never been tightened!

Thanks Martin
The scary thing is enough fuel leaked out to fill the back of the valley and was starting to run down the bell housing!
The hoses are all in good condition, except the one that perished. That was one of the old single layer rubber pipes with the cotton weave on the outside - ridiculous that all the others had been changed but that one, which was unsuitable for the job, left in place. Anyway problem sorted with new reinforced fuel hose. Just very lucky to have the bonnet open when it started leaking.
Cheers,
Chris
