Finally went for £101 and £87. That's nearly £200 for a pair of rear lights. Has the world gone mad?
Rear lights are going up in value even if our cars aren't. I'll have to dig my spare
set out of the garage!
The world has gone mad if folk start bidding to that extreme, if that's the case of all parts then your going to end up selling your car for spare and getting double the value of what the car is worth.Rear lights are going up in value even if our cars aren't. I'll have to dig my spare

So when you get a quote for approx £650 to get your roof renewed then you think thats not bad compared to nearly £200 just for lenses.

AndyDo you know what work is involved to replace the whole hood, not just the targa panel and then the cost of the materials!?
Ref the cost for rear lights and the rocker covers. You can't get good examples, so any which come up for sale go for what ever the market will stand/demand!
To be honest this post just sums wedgers up!
They are either tight or just don't realise what things cost today!
That is the main reason why we have problems getting traders to the fest, they will not come because they can't earn enough to make it pay!
Yes we would all love our cars to be worth more and they should! (Having 7 if they were 10% more I would be able to buy another two at least) But as most of my cars are keepers then my comments below don't effect me!
With regard to the vehicle price's in some way it's our own thought why they are the way they are!
We complain about the cost of the parts, but when we come to sell the car we want the highest price.
But when we come to buy the vehicle we want it for the lowest price!
We can't have it both ways!
I think the basic price has now stabilised and in the next couple of years, good clean original examples will get better price's and will have a larger market.
The market for moded car will be smaller, but a good moded car will get a good price, but not as much as the unmolested car.
Then you have the highly moded car, these will have a hard job getting a buyer let alone a good price unless you can find a buyer who wants that type of car or doesn't know what they are buying!
I think next year will be a interesting year!

Hi peeps..To be fair 650 sobs for a complete hood and targa is not that bad, I have known them to be 100 less and of good finish but i have also seen quotes for 800-1000..A trimmer who is not familiar with a TVR hood will tear the backside out of it and probably make a right pigs ear of it...If it is someone who is sending the car off to a trimmer or having someone come in to do it then they will be including their comission..As far as parts and prices..The rear lights for the 280i are more readily available..(Just about)..but if i owned a V8 i would snap up any spares as we all know some parts are really hard to get..Rear lights being one of them..This is unfortunately going to be one of the drawbacks in the future unless someone starts making something affordable and similar..(Doubtful)..Or you upgrade to something completely different..Its inevitable..
The price subject will always draw differences of opinion but in reality the affordability of such a great car means that people can afford them and keep them going..Yes there are some that have been molested and not always in a bad way but lets not forget the individual passion for each car..
I dont feel that wedgers are tight although i have heard a few of you sqeaking when you walk..
..I think its more of what you are getting and for how much..Sometimes we have to pay for the privilege of owning a TVR..(TVR Tax again)..And some people do take the biscuit but what is the alternative..A different car?.."I think not"...I for one am always happy to get out and about in delilah, She may be a little rough around the edges but then so am i..I have never been happier...Cheers..Ziga

Makes my NEW original TVR-made rear targa sound quite cheap, wonder why no-one has bought it yet... ;^)
Perhaps you need to remind people that its there mate...I did think about it but mine has the round edged rear window and the bottom edge looks different as it has quite a large bit of piping on it..Looks like a good investment for someone...

Same old things I've been hearing for the last 16 years or so since I got my first TVR. Everybody wants to buy cheap and sell high, irrespective of the commodity. Sellers start off with high hopes and usually end up coming down (but often keep quiet about that fact
).Buyers start off wanting to pay nothing and either do, but then find they've bought a shed, or have to increase their fund and usually end up buying something for three times their original budget. And then (often) find it's still a bottomless moneypit. TVRs (whether wedge or otherwise) are no different in this respect. I like machine tools, the same rules apply. Pay scrap price, get scrap.
Consider what'll happen when you die: your family won't value your possessions as much as you do; they'll put out to auction or take an offer for a quick sale. To my daughter, my £3000+ -worth of lathes and mills will be just so much scrap iron. My car will be an inconvenience - no tax, no insurance, how do you let someone road test it, jobs need doing, blah blah, make us an offer and trailer it away.
Seen it happen. Guy round the corner had an Esprit S4S (one of the rarer varieties), he was too ill to drive it or work on it for the last couple of years of his life. After his death his wife didn't want it, his son doesn't drive, it was flogged at auction, made 50% of its 'market value'. I saw it being trailered away, the driver had the biggest grin you ever saw.
