Hi marcus..It all depends on whether you have a removeable fitting on each end with tiny grub screws holding the cable..If this is the case then the pedal end will have a stud type fitting at the top of the pedal where the cable hooks over it with a 10mm nut on it which holds it in place..The other end goes to the clutch release arm..The adjuster which is normally where the oil filter is should be as slack as you can get it when re-fitting a new cable and you might have to remove the oil filter to get to it..Adjustment is made afterwards..Leave the outer cable cover in place as this is what operates the clutch and not the cable..Cut your cable a tad longer than the old piece..Then make a loop in the cable using the existing fitting's making sure that the grub screws are as tight as you can get them, They are/should be a small allen key type..Then thread the new piece of cable through from the bulkhead side with a small piece of either masking tape or duct tape on the end to avoid fraying and then fit the loop end to the pedal first and tighten the 10mm nut down....Then fit the nipple to the other end and feed through the larger of the two holes in the release arm..Mine is held in place with a cable tie..When adjusting try to make sure the nipple on that end goes in to the smaller hole..Adjust and check play..Always carry a extra piece of cable..There was a piece of cable which already had a loop in one end but i couldnt purchase any, I think it was from a VW camper...Good luck mate...Ziga
bloody hell Mark, thats more complex than i expected! Not taken the old cable out yet, went to the pub to console my sorrows after it snapped.
I'll take it out tomorrow and have a look at the fittings.
The motor is getting sorned at the end of the month, taking the engine out, or at the least the head off, so i might sorn it before november and get a month tax back and bring the whole project forward a month.
Then again, quick fix on the cable and enjoy the few remaining crisp autumnal drives.
i'm drivelling, think the beer is kicking in...hiccup...

It's an early (pre self adjusting) Ford Cortina mk4 2.3 clutch cable, with the insulator rubber and its plastic top hat cover cut off the pedal end. Probably cheaper than the official TVR one. QH part no GCC 1207 I beleive....or it was 15 years ago anyway.
I think the only difference between 2.3 and 2.0 versions is cable length, so a 2.0 one might fit, not sure....
Whilst you are taking it apart check that the steel tube which holds the outer sheath (it bolts to the pedal) does not foul the inner cable - mine did, which was the cause of premature fraying and breaking... so I shortened it so it was not longer than the plastic top on the cable.
IMHO the grub screw version (if you have one) is the AA/RAC repair job. (I had one of them when cable broke just outside work) Useful though for emergencies....

hi guys.
took the cable out from the pedal side thus afternoon. no grub screws. it was as rck described and had burst at the same point. not taken it out from the gearbox as it started chucking it down and i only have a drive no garage
so looks like a standard ford cable. took some pics but they wont upload.
