Under bonnet Tarting
Discussion
Ive seen some Wedges and others where the engine bay is immaculate ... everything colour coded with no blemishes...
is there anyone that does this professionally ?
Looking at my Engine, The Plenum is standard roughcast, the throttle body is clean but could probably use a little colour ... my rockers are black but plugleads red ( and oil stained ).
Temped to give it a blast with a steam cleaner, but I know that can cause all sorts of issues if the electrics get wet

Hi Mate..This is something that you can do over time..It also depends how far you want to go..Mine looks ok but there is still loads i need to do..I have seen some really exceptional examples, There was a post on the chimaera forum and some are just stunning..(See link)..Although once you have acheived your goal you will need to keep on top of it..I would start by getting some brake cleaner and some paper/cloth towels..Some latex gloves...(to avoid skin disorders only)..And start cleaning off some of the oily bits..Dont use a steam cleaner..Plenums can be bought polished or you can spend hours flattening off the surface with various grades of wet'n'dry and then use a variety of polishing mops and soaps which can be bought as a kit and are inexpensive to acheive mirror like finishes..Spray the cleaner into the towel and wipe over the leads..Replacing parts with bling can be expensive but if its what you want then go for it..Colour co-ordinated silicone hoses look good and so do braided hoses but i would be careful where you use braided hose as leaks can appear under the steel braid..They are better for air/oil or waste from a water catch tank..Alloy can be polished to a mirror finish with no too much hard work, Although its a messy job and is always better if you can remove the item prior to cleaning..have a look at some of these..ziga

You can spend hours doing it yourself or fortunes getting someone else to do it for you. rocker covers are easily removed and cleaning and painting them can make a difference for very little money and so can plenum, the rest is easy to clean up but to get it like some of the pics on zig's link is another thing.they do look good though.
Doh..I meant to say you can steam clean it but still cover delicate electrical components like fuse boxe's and junctions..You can use kitchen foil to wrap around the parts that you need to protect..If you want to use a cleaner with the steamer then go for a citrus based one as gunk degreaser is better removed via a hose which you can use but will need to warm the engine first..If steam cleaning its best to clean the under bonnet first so that when you do the engine you dont get dirty water dripping down on to the clean engine...Ziga

You might be able to get re-useable rubber rocker cover gasket's for the RV8..I know the ford engines only have cork rocker cover gaskets available, Although im looking in to getting some made from the same stuff that im having the supercharger gaskets made from..Ziga
Rubber rocker box gaskets have been supplied for the RV8 for some years.Gassing Station | Wedges | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
