Before you think of replacing all the carpet try cleaning it using 1001 carpet cleaner from Tesco. Good stuff biggrin
I diluted half of the bottle with warm water and scrubbed away using a washing up brush. The carpet came up a treat, 25 years of muck !!! The water was black eek

Just thought I'd share this with fellow wedgers.....

Some of the supermarkets and the DIY stores have a vacuum cleaner for hire for cleaning carpets and upholstery which does a fantastic job of cleaning car seats and carpets. I used it on a fiesta we had when my kids were small - the seats were quite simply disgusting. The cleaner got them looking like new for very little effort. Hire was about £20 for the day and cleaning solution about £10. Last time I saw one was in B&q. Thidnk morrisons supermarket and homebase do it too. smile

Does leave the carpets etc damp though so make sure they have an oppertunity to dry otherwise you'll get mould growing on them.

The other halves brother in law has his own industrial cleaning business. I'm getting all my carpets professionally cleaned for £50! I've not had them done in the 8 years I've lived there so I'm expecting the same manky water afterwards!

Hi Ian..As said make sure the carpet is dry as you will get rot and the glue will become un-stuck underneath it..I have a friend who would of borrowed me a carpet cleaner if you needed it..A Vax hoover is good as it is meant to suck up water..Remember what i said about the leather..DONT use any harsh chemicals..Hoover the seats first with a brush fitting on the end as not to scuff the seat..Use a mild solution of a well know baby shampoo..About a teaspoon to 2 litre's and using a clean non-abraisive cloth wipe the leather over,Do not saturate them..Then pat dry with a clean towel and leave to dry thoroughly, Then use a good leather cleaner and conditioner, Auto-glym do a twin pack or i found turtle do a combined cleaner-conditioner that is quite a good product..Howlfrauds sell it..Black label..Clear bottle..cream coloured solution..You would be better off wiping all the leather/vinyl down in one day and leave the cleaning and conditioning to the next day...Dont worry about the gearstick and handbrake gaiters as they would be better replaced..Hope this helps mate..
