Finally got the first round of mods complete on my 450 and took it for a spin yesterday and thought I should share this.
The difference is tremendous and if I only knew what it was I have changed / moved / rewired that caused it I would make a fortune as it feels like I have gained at least 50 odd horses.
The problems were pinking at full chat, misfire/jerkiness around 2200rpm and sometimes just a general loss of power.
Have moved / re-wired / re-plumbed as neccessary the AFM and filter, coolant tank and heater connections. The AFM is now on a 200mm long hose more or less in line with the throttle body and the coolant tank is in the middle of the windscreen bulkhead. There is now a full 5/8" bypass before the heater valve, not after it. The air filter is a K&N cone shaped one that did have Not For Road Use stamped on the box, something about messing up emissions control systems with it being of a very high flow rate.
Immediately I started it up I knew something had changed because it sounded different with a nice hard rasping edge to the already very loud and deep rumble and spit. It also pulled cleanly through the rev range and could sit there comfortably cruising at 2200. Once warmed up I gave it a few full throttle runs and it now has the performance to match the noise.
With the room now to put a cold air box round the whole filter and AFM assembly and duct this to the front of the car down the left wing there may be room for further improvement as well but as it stands I am now well chuffed.

Your persistance deserved a good result. Post some piccies when you get chance.
Just put a pic on my profile, not the best I have of the car but kind of suitable considering where I am residing.
Also sent some to the wedge pages recently hopefully for display in the gallery.
