Did TVR Ever Make This?
Discussion
Hi
The car was infact called a Speed Eight and was shown at the Motor Show, but it was shown at the same show as the Griff and only a few orders were taken against I think over a Hundread for the Griff so it was never put into production!
The show car was eventualy cut up!
Shame as it was a great looking car and a 2+2 as well!

Thats not the Speed 8
This is the 420 Sports Saloon....
The Speed 8 is a soft top wedge with the corners a lot softer and more rounded. I have the press pack for that too
crap photo but this was the Speed 8, again never made production...

Hi
The Speed Eight was the soft top version of the 420 sorry my mistake!
It had a more rounded front as well!
The Speed Eight was a great looking car and proberly the nicest looking Wedge made!
But with the Griff being shown at the same time it had no chance.
I would have brought one!

I've just dug out my press brochures so below are a couple of photos that may interest people.
The 420 Sports Saloon was from 1986 and has no connection (as far as I know) with the Speed 8 other that they happen to be both 2+2s. The Speed 8 was shown in 1990 and as has already been said came out at the same time as the Griffith prototype. I've also found my cards for both of these which I had sent to me from TVR direct back in 1990
My 86 press pack is complete with all the photos and brochures from the time including typed notes and price list. Makes for very interesting reading, plenty of Wedge pics and info

Here is the Speed 8 from it's best angle
This was the 2nd version and was Bl**dy Georgeous IMHO

As Andy says - I would have definitely bought one
Cheers

The rear 3/4 view is great too - looks VERY much like a Ferrari Daytona spider from that angle. Look on google images for TVR speed eight to see what I meanThis was the 2nd version and was Bl**dy Georgeous IMHO

You can kind of start seeing the Griff shape evolving out of that. This was the 2nd version and was Bl**dy Georgeous IMHO

Lovely looking car but the Sports Saloon at the top is a real stunner. Great shame there are none about.
