Valve Springs 3.5L Rover V8
Discussion
following my other thread here http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
i need some further help regarding the valve springs:
preventative i ordered an inner valve spring and a retainer. both are original (land)-rover parts.
the new retainer looks much sturdier, but is machined for a slightly differnt spring diameter (outer spring). the inner diameter of the actual spring is 23.5mm, the retainer is machined for a 25mm spring. i need to reduce the spring seat about 1.5mm.

also the inner spring (which i finally do not need to replace)is much sturdier and 10mm longer than the actually fitted one.
can anybody tell me if Rover has used different springs over the years or if its due to an engine overhaul and upgrade that the engine-builder has used "something" which he thought would improve the valve train and maybe reduce the weight and the load onto the camshaft? what is this sheet metal spiral for, fitted into my outer springs?
