Hi peeps..Just had a little chat with RT as regards to the front cross member going from the suspension mounts in front of the engine..Apparently they can be moved with no major problems so i will be putting delilah in at the ford garage just after christmas to have the replacment engine fitted..The steering rack sorted..The modded chassis rail and the supercharger fitted..I thought i might as well drive it around with the original set up that it was intended for until i get the inheritance come through by which point i might just grab a 400..It will still be pushing over 200bhp as is so that will be a bit of fun..Besides the car would be away at RT for 12-13 weeks which means the money would have to be here in two months but even then i might miss the start of the nice weather and the BBWF..Its also the cheaper option...cheers..Ziga

PS: Meant to ask if anyone with an SX could take a couple of snaps of the supercharger oil res and how many hoses..i:e..1 = In x 1 = Out,1 = In x 1 = Out + Filler as is mine..Although i thinks it was cruedly modified..Ta

I will Probably have to have an unleaded valve conversion done as well...Mmmm...That's pushing up the pennies...And the time it will be ready..DOH!banghead

Hi Mark

Sounds like you are being sensable about it!
With the supercharger the car will go a lot better with out any major engine mods. As you know I like to keep things original if poiss, so have not keeped up with you other wild mod post, so why the change to the chassis?

Hi Andy...The mod to the chassis is so that the supercharger pulley wheel for the crank can fit on as at the moment it wont..The chassis design on mine has a bar going from one suspension mount to the other and is at the height of the pulley...Ziga

H Mark

I presume you have tried it then! In which case Richard is the man to do it!
It will be interesting to see how it comes out!

You can visible see that the pulley wheel for the supercharger wont fit purely because of that cross member..I spoke to RT and he said it can be moved with no major hassles..So i will sit down with the ford guy and decide on a suitable angle..It will probably be something similar as what the 350 had..I think it will be more practical to run the car with a replacement standard engine that was rebuilt a few years ago and has low mileage..And then save up for the electronics and head money which shouldnt take long and then fit the blower with the electronic ignition..Even with just a replacement engine i will feel the difference dont forget i only had 107bhp at this years BBWF..Last year on a sanspeed rolling road i was pushing 123bhp..Maybe the cam wear has been happening all this time and is now coming to an end..Its more practical and to be honest i dont need to be adding a supercharger to my wedge in the wet and icy season..

The early chassis had a horizontal tube about 1 - 1 1/4" diameter between the two front suspension uprights, it was the norm to cut this out an fit a bolt in version if you needed to take the engine out, you could buy the bolt in version from TVR. My DHC chassis #205 had this, I cut it out to remove the engine, taking a static measurement between the two remaining ends of the old tube, I can tell you it didn't distort while I ran round in the car for the time it took me to make up a bolt in version, perhaps it was flexing in use, and perhaps being permanently removed could lead to cracking in the chassis?

My current FHC chassis #391 has the tube from each upright diagonally down to the front cross-member, IMO makes more sense and likely to be significantly stronger, introducing triangulation.

Mark what chassis # is your car? Its and '83 is it not, so later than my FHC?

Regards,

Chris.

Hi chris..My wedge is a 1982, First registered 01/08/82 and the chassis number is..DH5324F1..I dont want to remove the tube entirely but maybe have welded a piece either side from the original weld to the lower cross member..So it looks in essence like the later 280 or the 350i chassis..Here is the existing strut..Cheers..Ziga
