Ty,

I stripped the black paint off my steel struts then buffed them up with polishing wheels earlier this year. They came up lovely - as good as polished alloy, if not better.

Originally, I was going to swap them for Chim or Griff items, but the breakers wanted silly money and they weren't exactly the right size anyway. If memory serves, they were shorter, so that the lower mounts needed to be re-located slightly higher up. This would have left obvious marks where the carpet had been compressed by the old mounts for 25 years!

Give it a go. You can't lose anything!

Ziga, just use loads of Nitromors (or other good quality paint remover) - it comes off great. I wouldn't be tempted to shot blast 'em as it will make it more difficult to buff up afterwards (what am I saying? You are the Polish Meister).

The car goes in for the replacement engine wednesday so i might just take the struts off then..I have some nitromoors..And polishing mops and soaps..Mind you i still have a 280 plenum and an antique tea pot to clean up..although im hesitating with the latter as im waiting on info regarding date and value..Dont want to obliterate a family heirloom..eek....laugh

Maybe if you just give the teapot a gentle rub first, a Jeanie might pop out and grant you three wishes...
