Hi All

My parts bill is rising nicely, so while the front susspension is all over the garage floor I may as well do it right first time.

Hopefully the last items on my list are a pair of front shocks.

I have found online a pair of AVO's for £150 plus the dreaded VAT or a pair of GAZ for £110 +vat. spax are available somewhere in the middle. All have the damper adjusters.

I know absolutely nothing about these, found a post about the Spax possibly not being great. has anyone got any advice on which way to go please? Or does it make no difference for a road car?

Originals don't seem to bad other than they are pretty grotty. Been told they are very old though as they have no damper adjustment?

Cheers Karl.

This is a subject I spent much of last year getting resolved. I had to have a bespoke pair of front GAZ's made which went back on 3 occasions to get sorted. Eventually, after my third visit, they got it sorted and that's only I after I dealt with their technical manager who did precisely what I asked him to do which was to lengthen the stroke and the body of the damper which sorted the issue. The rears I have from GAZ need to be re-valved to run softer so they haven't seen the last of me yet!

However, to answer your question I would look at these points to consider. 1 How much can you afford? If you can stretch your budget go for something near to Nitrons or Ohlins which are big money and will last. If not GAZ have different variations of damper to suit your price. 2 How will you drive your car once fitted? If you are doing track days then you will need something that will do the job both off and on the track again GAZ have that variation of price and spec.

There are guys on here with AVO's who will give their opinions but I would stick with GAZ as they have been supportive with any issues I have had.

Thanks GV

These are the ones I've found, it's a generic photo I hope.

The car will never see a track in my ownership! To many expensive recent memories with an MR2 Turbo. Will be getting a 1.6 import MX5/euros as our next track car.
