Headlight motor!

like your original post. they sit on a separate stand bolted to the floor. no hole in the floor to wind them, you have to squeeze your arm in from the back.
^ +1Also mine has the bonnet hinging from the upright panel to allow clearance for the pipes to the intercooler when the bonnets opened.
Like this.
Chris.

Thanks for that!
As I haven't seen this way of fitting the headlights before I want to find out more. You say to wind the motor up by hand you get you hand in from behind.
Can you explain more?
On my project car there is on each side an ally plate held in by screws. When the plate is removed you can get your hand into the headlight well from the back!

I think SH's bible mentions some wedges had their headlamp mechanisms bolted to the floor of the pods. Do the aluminium plates look original? I'd be quite pleased to have a way of accessing the headlamp pod cavities without taking the headlights out; I seem to need to do it quite often to access the repeater bulbs and the spoiler bolts!
From the state of the cut edges on the fibreglass on mine i would think they were cut by a blunt knife after factory. Andys look the same to me.
to be honest access from this is pointless. each time i've had to do it my arms get cut up on the edges if i can get them thro. but it has to be done if you need to get the pods up to get the lamps out!

MartinTo be honest I ignore SH Bible as I find most of it is not relevant unless you have a 390 as that what he based the book on and as you know not two wedges are not the same and a 390 is so different to a 280iFHC and especally num1 350i
I got more correct info out of the drivers hand book on the cars electrics than I got from the Bible!
Ref the plates I don't know, I will take a couple of pics today and let you decide. I agree with Marcus that acsses to the headlight this is way is not great.

Hi MartinI have attached pics of the ally plate, which may be original or may not. They are were the normal pods motor brackets fit so I don't think you can cut and access hole here!
This FHC project is very interesting to do. Even down to the rear windscreen wiper!

Thanks for the vid clip!
Your access is the same as mine thanks. Yours is an 82 car are you lucky and having coloured wires or have you got the dreaded black wires as I have?
Here's a pic of the rear wash/wiper.

The wiper motor is beside the drivers seatbelt!
