Hi guys,

The brakes on my 450SE are intermittently spongy and as the brakes seem to be in good condition I think the problem is with the master cylinder.

I am having trouble tracking one down though. Does anyone know where I can get one for a reasonable price or if there is a repair kit still available?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

If you are sometimes getting a longer pedal. then it can also be due to slight play in the diff output bearings which push the pistons in slightly

Hi Nick, I've had a few problems with the spongy brakes on my 450 (see 'bleeding brakes' thread) after I had upgraded the discs/calipers. The issue was with a scored master cylinder. Ordered a replacement one from ebay (from seller POPY760 - part described as 'TVR TASMIN BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER(GIRLING TYPE BRAKE SYSTEM)'. This fitted perfectly to mine! Cheers Clive

Hi

I use the same man for my master cylinders.
At £35 they are good value, don't mess about trying to replace the seals etc at that price it's not worth it and that's one thing you need with a wedge the best brakes you can!

Hi

Yes you can upgrade from the early system to this later Master Cylinder.

It' not a strait swop, you may have to change the brake pipes around.

But it's not a big job!

Thanks a lot guys! I've just been on ebay and bought the master cylinder popy760 was selling. Very good price at £55 including postage. Hopefully it will do the trick and sort out my spongy pedal!

Cheers

Hi Nick

You beat me to it!

With postage £55 so I had to get another one ready for when one goes in one of my cars!

At this price it's silly not to just fit a new master cylinder.

I think he's just re-listed another actually, so I'd hurry up and get it if I were you!
