TVRCC Wedge Coverage
Discussion
Hi Guys,
As you know I have been working away on the TVR Wedgepages website for quite a few years now.
I started the site with the intention of giving Wedge owners someplace to get together and share ideas, tips and pictures etc as I felt that other more 'conventional' methods of doing this ie. through the TVRCC 'Sprint' magazine and their new website were maybe giving the Wedge cars a bit of a back seat - overshadowed by the newer / current machinery!?.
After talking to many of you personally I think that this feeling is becoming more and more of an 'issue' to the point where I have heard people mention that the only course of action is to start another separate Wedge club! 'If they don't care about us then we will start our own club!'
The 'breaking point' I feel was over the coverage of the BBWF this year. After reading many of the comments on this forum Ralph Dodds mailed me to give me his side of the story and suggested that we have a frank discussion on the matter.
Three very long email's and an hour conversation with Ralph later I can honestly say that I think that I got my feelings across on the matter!!. More importantly though I feel, Ralph got a few VERY good points across in the TVRCC's defence as well.
For instance, exactly how many of us actually sent a 'good' article into the TVRCC on the event? along with some good quality pics to go with the article??. I know I wrote one and published it on the Wedge site the day after the event, but I didn't send one in as I assumed that somebody else would have done it(?).
Whatever the issues were over the BBWF not getting the publicity and recognition it deserved after talking to Ralph I am of the opinion that it is not wholly the TVRCC's fault.
I am prepared to put some time in to help rectify the Wedge coverage issue and to ensure that this situation does not happen again.
I am therefore going to act as Editor for the Wedge section of the TVRCC website and make sure that these articles definately get a mention.
I have not taken this role on lightly as I have enough on my plate with the TVR Wedgepages site as it is. I am passionate about the fact that the Wedge cars and Wedge events will get a mention BUT I cannot do it alone. It needs YOU to help me out in this matter.
If you want me to raise the profile of the Wedge cars on the TVRCC site (and hopefully in Sprint as well at some point) then I need you to get your pens to paper. Don't assume that somebody else will send an article or story in 'cos chances are that they won't - We are all we got.
I have no intention of letting the TVR Wedgepages go either, the same applies to that as well. Get something pulled together and send it to me.
I guarantee that I will do my best to get your work online by hook or by crook
you will just have to bear with me.
I am prepared to roll up my sleeves and get something positive done about the situation, without sounding too much of a prat - are you with me?.

You have done a good job, Mike, of making your points, as has Ralph and I think this frank exchange of viewpoints will be productive in the long run. I have dealt with this for some years here in the States when members complain about not having coverage about this or that in our newsletter, but since I can't be everywhere to write the articles myself, I have to rely on others to send them in. The same situation is at play here. As you put it: "Don't assume someone else has sent in an article" because that is when no one does and the event gets missed altogether.
If everyone interested in making sure an event gets its due, the if each of you send in a little write-up and a photo or two, then the webpage and Sprint will have more than enough material to choose from to do a good job of covering that event.
The coverage won't be there, if you don't take the time to provide the information. Thanks for taking the lead on this, Mike!

Well Done... There have been calls from a number of people about setting up other tvr clubs for one reason or another but im convinced the way forward it to work within the existing club as you are doing.
THis raises all our profiles and causes, leading to a better environment for us all.
If there is a need for more work on the wedge side of things there should be an active wedge section within the club, same as for competition. we dont need another club just better use of the one we have...
as someone once said its better to be on the inside pissing out than the outside pissing in..

Well done Mike and of course thanks to Ralph, I have already been working on an update to my 'owners pitfalls par for the course' from tvrwedgepages and hope to have it finished with all photos next week - I am sure that there are plenty more stories that we have and can provide to beef up Sprint and make it ever more Wedge friendly.
Excellent news Mike
Ralph is himself a passionate Wedger but does seem to have too much on his plate to sort out the Wedge model area on the TVRCC site as well as his RO role.
Now the Wedge lobby can throw away our plackards and pick up a pen
Power To The People!!
PS. see you later-hope this rain holds out cos i want to change me temp sensor before you try her!

Hi Andy,
I have been quiet on the subject of the TVRCC for months and have been biting my tongue big time!
I have let everybody else 'have a go' and to be honest I have agreed with most of the things said at the time.
But, the other day after talking with Ralph you do then get to see the other side of the coin. There are reasons why things have turned out the way they have and as I have said I believe that the club is not all to blame.
What you have now got in place is a person (me) who cares passionately about the Wedge cars and I am willing to put myself out for anybody who gets off their butt and makes the effort to put something together.
For instance, where is this article on your re-trim ??. If memory serves you were gonna take some good pics and put together and article on retrimming a wedge (July sometime?). An article I am sure a LOT of people with Wedges would be interested in (including myself).
If you don't send stuff in then you cannot really expect things to change for the better, this goes for my Wedgepages site as well.
The only issue I have is time (as I have a fulltime job and have just started a college course) you will all have to bear with me whilst I get my bearings that is all I ask.
One thing that I can tell you though if after putting in all the time and effort and things then still do not change then I will be the first person to start asking for ideas of what to call the new Wedge club!.
In the meantime I am prepared to give the club a go and to hopefully try to make things better.
Just my extra 2p's worth

I have been a member of the TVRCC for over 11 years and for some time now I have felt that Sprint did not offer me much in the way of interest but it comes free with my membership of the TVRCC. In the overall scheme of things Wedges contribute a small percentage of all TVR’s produced and therefore it is the newer models that have the larger numbers hence there is a bigger pool for which contributions to Sprint can be drawn from. Anyone reading the Wedgepages and contributing to them shows that they are interested in the Wedge series of cars but at the end of the day they are a TVR. and we have a club for all TVRs. As Mikeb has pointed out no one sent into Sprint an article about BBWF, I am guilty of that along with the 100 or so other people that turned up for the event so we only have ourselves to blame when there are no articles about Wedges in Sprint. Talking of BBWF I was sad for it not to be thrown open to all TVR’s but it was not but I was still happy to attend but I feel we could have got more from the weekend if it were. Could there be a phobia amongst Wedge owners that at any open to all event we will be swamped by newer models and not be noticed?
I look forward to seeing some Wedge articles in Sprint in the near future.
Thanks for reading this and thanks to Mikeb for all his efforts over the years which makes Wedge ownership that much more pleasurable.

Mike ....i use your pages as my primary resource for help and advice.......i do not receive 'sprint' (i used to be a member before i owned the Wedge!) . I feel ,personally ,you have everything to gain by starting a single model club.........Wedge owners are very proud / dedicated enthusiasts that often put up with a lot of 'looking down the nose 'attitudes from some with more pricey/exclusive TVR models.....while a publication like sprint has to spread its coverage over many a model, i feel the lack of BBWF coverage (not a sanctioned event ,don't you know old boy),which by any standards, was a large event, shows you EXACTLY the level of 'standing' the Wedge community holds with the TVRCC.
If you are reading chaps ,prove me wrong......prove that we, as a group , didn't put your noses out of joint when BBWF was such a success.
Stuff 'em ,i say , and royally too!

I have kept my own counsel recently , but now feel I should pass comment .
I also had a very productve discussion with Ralph . As a matter of record , the BBWF , after much discussion , and gnashing of teeth , was open to ALL TVR's. Hence the attendance of some Chimaeras ( Sans golf clubs , in addition to causing the only "Hiccup" of the event ) and the Wedge fraternity believing that we would recieve some coverage.
During a recent trip to Dunsfold , I also had a discussion with a TVRCC committee member , where we discussed the issue of " Single model " gatherings .What I object to is the " Club " not wanting to offend someone who is a regular contributor to " Sprint" , I assume a member , when 80 plus owners organize the largest gathering of the model ever seen , and are ignored .
What has my membership fee given me ?
Mike B , you have done plenty for the model , it is about time the "Club" stood up to the plate !!

I agree with Mike - it must be quite difficult for Sprint to print an article for us if no-one has actually bothered to send one in!
If you ring Derek Smith & submit & few well crafted words along with a few hi-res piccies he will usually include them.. and something as big as the BBWF would certainly get a mention.
If they will print a full double page on the White Elephant and mention it on the front page and both inside front covers, then it cannot be true to say that the Car Club is no longer interested in Wedges!!!
Did anyone actually submit anything at all, or did we all just expect the article to write itself?

Wedgeman,
Good point fella.
How can they be expected to 'step up to the plate' when they got nothing to step up to the plate with!.
If we go through all the effort of putting together loads of 'well crafted' articles (and then sending them in!) and THEN nothing happens then thats another matter totally.....
I am eagerly awaiting stuff from you guys to edit and submit. Just give me the ammo.

Mike, I'm sure that if Derek had wanted to print some coverage of the BBWF in the last copy of Sprint he could have found the article on the BBWF you published on the tvrwedgepages so promptly after the event. To say that not one line was given to coverage of the BBWF because no article was submitted is a poor excuse in my opinion.
Here's hoping that your appointment as custodian of the wedge section of the TVRCC website will rectify that situation. I will do a write-up of my Turbo-LPG conversion over the winter and submit it to tvrwedgepages as I'm not a TVRCC member. If you want to re-use it on the TVRCC website then they can have royalty free on condition they publish something more than a few lines about BBWF in the next issue of Sprint.

I have been a member of the TVRCC for a few years, but never felt the benieft, I get more out of PH and the wedgepages, I have now let my membership lapse. I have recently done a gearbox change on my Tasmin 200 Mk1, for my own amusment I did a write up for my own website (up till now not given out details). Mike you are free to read the article and use it if you wish on yours or the TVRCC site. bear with me Im new at this web stuff. www.degs.demon.co.uk
