Hi All

Does anyone know the best place to get new gass struts to replace the bonnet ones on my car? They have completely given up now.

I did see some a month ago on fleabay I think but they where ridiculously expensive for something that must be a farely standard item that fits loads of different cars?

Cheers Karl

Hi Karl

I used these guys after Mark (Zigga) found them, for replacing both my bonnet and boot struts recently. Excellent service and quality and reasonable cost:

I recently got a boot strut from there for my Chimaera, excellent service. If you send them your old one they will let you know if that can be re-gassed.

Hi Chris

Thanks Chris

That looks just the job, I'll be ordering them tonight.

Andy they are £14.99 each plus postage of £5.30

If you make the order up to over 50 quid (boot and bonnetjust shy of £60) postage is free next day.

Pretty good when you consider the ones I'd seen on ripoff-bay where 40 quid each!

Cheers Karl.

Hi

I used SGS as well for some for my 280i bonnet. I did spend a while trying to find alternatives, but they seemed to be the best price I could find where I could be sure that I would get what I actually wanted, and not some 'reconditioned' part from ebay that may or may not work for that long, and may or may not actually be the right thing.

Just to add that I spoke to them on line to sort out what i needed... very helpful to chat on line!! I got a different pair for the boot as they are lifting the weight of the spoiler so got 350i bonnet struts and 400SE boot ones same price!

I spent ages searching for strut suppliers and SGS just couldn't be beaten. I've bought 3 sets from them to date and all are doing the job superbly

Hi

I must admit I have got mine in the past from Richard,

Yes they are more expensive but they have the feature that one does all because you can adjust (One way) the presure so if you have a SEAC spoiler you let out less gas to get the correct assistance.
If SGS offer the same strut for the bonnet and boot and they are not adjustable then the use on the boot will be over kill as the bonnet is twice as heavy as the boot so the boot should need less assistance. If you have to much assistance you can end up with stress fractures around the fixings!
