My son has a Tasmin Automatic, I seem to remember at least one bigger wedge - I think it was green, and was a 420 or 450 SE.

Anyone know if this was a one off? Anybody here own it?

Cheers,

Rob.

I have an automatic 280 as well, there seem to be a few of them around, have seen at least one other auto 280 advertised recently, but not seen any auto 350's etc advertised. Mine also looks like it may have been intended for the us to start wih but remained here in the uk

Hi

Auto's were made for the UK market, mainly 280is it was also offerd as an option on the 350is for a while, I know of one white 350i S1 with auto (In the Norfolk area.)
I don't know how many were made.
There have been a couple converted by people.
The Green 450 (Left hand drive) was a special order for the middle east. The last time I heard of it was RT Racing were preping it for it's new owner!

I understood there were a small number of 280i/Tasmin automatics around. In fact there is a right hand drive in a small town just near my town - so two within 20 minutes of each other. Seems a few of you out there. I was surprised how nice it was to drive when I first tried it years back - I was driving a manual Tasmin at the time so it was easy to A/B compare.

Mr. Tank, that one at RT must be the one I am thinking of, as it was a left hand drive. That would have been a nice replacement for the XK8 my wife is driving, as she finds it hard to drive a manual TVR due to the reach required.

Have to keep an eye open - who knows what may show up. She will want a V8, air and power steering, so it could be very difficult indeed. Perhaps a conversion would be better, but to be honest if putting in that effort I think moving seats / pedals etc... may be just as easy.

Cheers,

Rob.

Hi Rob

You say reach is the problem with your wife driving a TVR. Is that because she cant reach the pedels etc!

Because TVR came up with a very simple soloution, they made a booster back rest. Which basacly is a additional back rest you slipped over the original seat back which put the driver closer to the controls. Worked well, I had one for the wife (Still in the garages some were) then on later cars Chims etc they made longer thread for the pedals (For the Japanese market) which put the pedals closer to the driver!

She is under five feet - she drove my 350i home the day I bought it (fast) but wouldn't drive it again. She also was going to drive my Griffith, but just couldn't do it.

My mother-in-law had cushions in her TVR to get her up higher, and forward more; but it looked bad, and she said she wouldn't have that - so if we are to get one I need to move things around until they fit well.

Hi

You wife is the same height as my wife. The boaster cushion looks just like a normal back rest but pushes her towards the controls.
It worked well.
Then the factory came up with the Japanese pedels even better.
Its a shame you can't fit them on a wedge!

Its an easy mod to fit the threaded bar ajustment pedals, had mine done for the wife, I got hold of some pedals off a chim and had a internally threaded collar welded to the pedal where the rubber fixing plates were. The accelerator pedal just had to be bent forward. Well it sounded easy when Martin from TGA in Wolves told me what he'd done !!

She is thinking that a fake AC Cobra might suite her - she would be able to have it built to just fit her and not worry about anyone else, and she could have 500HP without too much trouble.

(ok, trouble, but not trouble getting the 500, trouble due to the 500!)

So I guess if the big left hand drive automatic wedge comes up for sale again I need to get on it before I get roped in to the Cobra thing.
