Evening Guys
Well need to replace the gearbox oil and mounts and would like to get the car up as high as possible, does anyone know if you can use ramps as it looks a little close, be happy to remove the front spoiler, but am a little concerned about rear, any advise appreciated before i buy.

Regards

Yep, but depending on your ramps you might need to put a plank of wood or similar just in front of the ramps just to get you started.

hi ralph, never used ramps but done it with car on 4 axle stands and not too bad job. worth doing the linkage mounts while your under there, they can fail and give a horrible gear change, i used these, bit of a fiddly job as the original design is a compromise and you might have play about with different washers to get a good fit but well worth doing

now all you've got to do is work out what oil you're going to stick back in!!! it's a mine field and everyone seems to have different thoughts, i went for a flush out of 50/50 solution of ATF and white spirit and then filled with Mobile 1 and have been happy ever since!

p.s when you fill it up use a length of tube, put one end in the fill hole and run the other end up in to the engine bay with a small funnel and cable tie it to something, this way you won't get more oil down your arm than in the gearbox!!! biggrin

This is the one, a bit of garden hose does the trick with a coke bottle at one end and a bit of silicone hose on the other for flexibility.

Makes life a lot easier, until the wife goes to use the garden hose that now wont quite reach the bottom of the garden and the sunflowers start to die!

Hi Al
Cheers for the info thats just what i needed mate, the gear stick is fine, its the gearbox side mounts that got ripped apart when i put the engine back in, as was unaware that they were there, still they looked pretty shot and needed replacing.

Is it best to run the car first to get the oil hot, then drain mate? and did you do the same with the flush?

Ps Cheers Stu, looks like the garden hose is about to be cut lol

Cheers

Ralph

Now why didn't I think of that. Sure I got more on the floor than in the box and the diff was even worse, it was all over the place, won't be needing any hair gel for a few days biggrin

i drained fluid cold first, then added flush and run car on axle stands going through gears at tickover-2000 rpm for 10 minutes then drained and filled with mobile1.

you may not need to do flush, mine was noisey 5th gear, nothing too serious but since flush is a lot quieter. i still have a slight noise which is best described as the noise you might get in a race/rally strip out car with straight cut gearbox but not as loud and only on really notice it on motorway. Dan taylor has driven car and commented on noise but can't work it out either but reckoned it was the one of the sweetest change wedge gearbox's he's driven precise and slick so said to best leave it alone!! its covered 4k now and has not given any problems or got any worse.

there's a good thread someone where on the gearbox flush and oil choice which makes some good reading and goes into more detail but i'm no good at search for old threads but i'm sure someone might point you in the right direction nerd
