Differences between Series 1 and 2
Discussion
Hi
S1 and S2 differances are numerous. But the basic differances are below.
The look: The S1 is more sharper with ridged bumpers. The S2 have a softher look with smooth bumpers. The wing mirrors were changed to a sleeker design for the S2. The rear lights were also different
The suspension: S1 and S2 initially both had trailing arm suspension, but later in production the S2 went to a frame suspension.
The exhaust: This is the biggest differance from a S1 to S2. The S1 has cast manifolds and usual had a single exhaust pipe at the left rear. But I have seen a couple of late S1 having twin single pipes (one each side) at the rear.
The S2 had TVR's own manifolds which were an improvement of around 10bhp on the cast system. During production the S2 rear pipes came out at the rear either side or twin pipes on the right hand side. and some had a single pipe on the right hand side.
The interior: The S1 and S2 had some differances. the most obvious is the door cards. The S1 had split cards whilist the S2 was a one piece card. The instrument consul was also different the window switches were moved into the panel as were the wing mirror controls, the ashtray were moved to a single unit from the door cards on to the central consul!
Those are the main differances but no two TVR's are the same so you will be surprised what you will find!

they came very late in production.

I meant model development, not date of construction. They came in on the 400 SE but I can't remember whether it was at launch.

Yep, just checked some old pictures and sure enough my S2 had visible hinges - so much for my memory!

Haha - that's my car! (will have it on the road this summer English!).Yeah, the car I now own, which was Englishman's is a very early S2 I believe. It has the full TVR exhaust system with tubular headers, all the S2 cosmetics, but still has the 'trailing arm' rear suspension.
.....and as mentioned, exposed boot hinges!
