Speaking of early wedges...
Discussion
Whilst digging out a drawing of the Telcast wheel centres I came across a list I made in my early days of Wedge ownership, after a letter I wrote appeared in 'Sprint' asking where all the S1 Tasmins had gone. Some names may be familiar, some I suspect are no longer with us, let alone still driving Wedges... but the chassis numbers may ring some bells so here goes (chassis - then (1996-ish) owner - area):
FH5010 - Dylan ???, later GrahamW's car - Teesside
FH5015 - Simon Fletcher - Preston, later Banbury (worked for Arvin who made the Tas exhaust, then @ Rover)
FH5021 - Stuart Brown - ???
FH5036 - my car, now a racer
FH5046 - Rick Hey - ???
FH5053 - Richard Gummow - Cheltenham
FH5054 - Derek Rogers - London
FH5056 - Andy Haas - Bournemouth
FH5068 - Mark Laker - Andover
FH5074 - Bob Noble - Wallsend
FH5101 - ??? - Cheltenham
DH5133 - Paul Craven - Mansfield
(D or F)H134 - Hugh Smart - Guildford?
DH5471 (i.e. not a S1) - Bob Harrison - Hampshire
Just thought someone might be interested...

I wondered when you would be asked to do replacment wheel centre for the "Telcast" wheels.
The TVRCC published a more complete list in the early 90s of known cars and the then known owners and a certain Red car is not know about at that time. But does anybody know the the were abouts of the first "Wedge" Chassis owner. But as I have said before I think these are Production Chassis numbers do the two or Three pre-production cars still exist?

Thats easy check on the DVLA list to see if it's still taxed.
I had a
moment on Wed!I had a letter from the MIB which is the gov deptment who check to see if cars are insured etc.
No I think a Separate thread will be needed for this as its an item I think all Wedgers need to be aware off if the don't already know!

Don't let the MIB (Men In Black) bully you. If you have a car wil no insurance on it, there's no compulsion to tax it. Likewise, if you have a car with no tax, there's no compulsion to insure it.
If a car isn't taxed or insured or both, just make sure it's not parked on the public highway and is actually off the road - i.e. not on the roadway, footpath, grass verge, council-owned car park (including the access to council owned garages) etc.
The only compulsion is....
If its got no tax, you must declare "SORN"....Statutary Off Road Notification.... Wherever it is - and then keep it off the road.
If you don't declare it SORN and keep it on the public highway or council land, the MIB will find it and take it away and eventually crush it if you don't pay the fine and Excise Duty.
In summary...
No tax? Declare SORN and get it off the road.
No insurance but it is taxed? Get it off the road
No insurance and no tax? Get it off the road and declare SORN
Taxed and insured? Do what the fook you like.

Funny you brought this up..The guy we are buying it from hasnt taxed it since 1997 or sorned it..
...But it has been sat in his front garden all this time...He did confess to this and is putting it right..However we will be looking into insuring No.2 whilst its being restored..God forbid anything happening but we must consider it..Ziga

Hi
...But it has been sat in his front garden all this time...He did confess to this and is putting it right..However we will be looking into insuring No.2 whilst its being restored..God forbid anything happening but we must consider it..ZigaNo they are not bulling me it high lighted a problem I had, which was the car in question had a new reg number and I forgot to inform the insurance company of the change of reg num, well that was what I had thought! In fact my insurance for all the cars was due on the 1st Dec we moved on the 28th November and I forgot all about the insurance and all the paper work has been put in store pending my new office/garage being built!
So I have had the vehicle's details changed added a couple more to the list and this year to 12 cars with a change to unlimted milage its now £1800 for the year! Not bad concidering the range of cars.
But the thing which worries me is this.
If your car is taxed but off the road in your own garage on your own land, (not on the public highway) and your insurance runs out they will fine you for not having insurance!
Yes if the Tax runs out and not insurance you just SORN it thats simple.
But the fact the car is on your own land they still require it to be-insured unless its SORNed is just Big Brother again getting you every way they can!
The wording on the letter is this!
"It is now a legal requirement for a vehicle to be insured at all times unless it has been declared off the road. As the registered keeper you are responsible for this. "
Andy
Sorry, that's the one thing I forgot to say...
If the car is taxed but not insured, you must either tax it or declare it off the road ( you'll get money back for cashing your tax in, pro-rata, minus a bit for the governments back pocket).
The MIB don't want uninsured cars either on the road...or off it.
Like its going to make much difference...
Will someone driving about with an uninsured car really be bothered that its got no tax on it?
And if a the driver of an untaxed car has a crash and is insured, then the insurance won't pay for his damage or injury, but will only pay for the other party...then try getting insurance again!
And if a driver has a crash and has no tax or insurance, the MIB have to pay up for the third party damages. That's what this whole issue is about. The MIB are fed up with having to make massive pay outs to third parties injured in crashes with uninsured drivers. If they were taken out of the equation, we'd all pay much less for our insurance.
See, they are just thinking of us really. We should be grateful.
Truly humbling...

Totally agree there..I had a friend who was killed by an un-insured hit and run driver..In fact they didnt even know who the driver was as the car was not re-registered and the details they gave when they bought the car were false..The previous owner was facing a "Death by dangerous driving" charge..Even though she was left disabled a year before selling the car after a back operation went tits up!...It really pee's me off as i have always insured and taxed and MOT'd every car i have ever owned and paid through the nose for insurance..And still do...Even though the amount of cars round where i live being lifted for crushing due to no tax has dropped considerably it's still a percentage...ZigaThe MIB are fed up with having to make massive pay outs to third parties injured in crashes with uninsured drivers. If my memory serves me correct, this was a goldy-type colour.
The owner lived at a farm and used to rent out some holiday cottages. I was lucky enough to stay there in the late 80's and used to lust after this FHC wedge thingy that was parked there

As a bizarre co-incidence, I was up there only two weeks ago and went back to the house, stupidly to see if it was still there by any remote chance. Needless to say, it wasn't

They were originally cast items; to machine them from solid bar would be a very wasteful and costly exercise. Might be worth someone's while having a new casting master made up and talking to a small foundry... but even then the per-item cost would be I wondered when you would be asked to do replacment wheel centre for the "Telcast" wheels.

unless you wanted hundreds.I seem to remember Dexy going down that route to get a new diff. support bracket made for his Grantura, I think it was the most expensive part of the whole restoration!
