Brake Master Cylinder origin - 350i

Hey all.

Might be nipping to the Newark Autojumble this weekend, so was thinking about picking up a rebuild kit for my brake master cylinder.

I was under the impression that it's off a Mk4 Ford Cortina? Is that right?

Car is an 85 350i if that helps any!

You can get a new Master Cylinder for £45 so is it worth say £10 quid for a rebuild kit and then you have to rebuild it!
With brakes is it worth the saving?

Got mine from a Capri 280i, still fitted. Thats a few years ago now.

I'd agree with Andy, buy a new master cylinder. The one on my '85 350i is off a Mk 4 Cortina

Andy - is it definitely a Mk4 Cortina item then?

I was only considering a rebuild, as all the replacement cylinders I managed to find were more like £70-80!
Rebuilds themselves don't daunt me, I've done a few, but if a complete unit is only £30-40, I'll do that.
Especially as I want the car on the road for the end of April!

Think big red does overhaul kits.
When I was looking for an overhaul set (long time ago) couldn't find it, had to put a new one on at a bit more than 70-80 pounds. And such a price doesn't seems to be too bad to me for a complete new brake master cylinder.
