the passenger window on my 400SE.

Took the car out for a run this morning and the passenger window will not move up, only down.

Any pointers for an auto electrics novice.

TIA,

Kenneth.

Take the door panel off - I'm sure you will find that the cable is stuck !

Look for a steel cable - just like one from a bicycle
brake cable ..

They get snagged sometimes..

The cable on mine is anchored behind the rear bottom opening - once the panel is off you need to peel the plastic cover off this opening.
On later cars the door panel is held by several self tapers along underside of door - remove and panel lifts up and off leaving handle assy in place.

Sounds like the switch - the nature of the load they switch can cause one of the internal contacts to get carbon on them stopping it working in one or more directions.

If it is the switch try spraying a bit of WD40 (or, very carefully, carb cleaner) into it from the front, won't be a permanent cure but may clean it up enough to get the window up. Permanent cure is to take the switch out, take it apart and clean the contacts.

I agree chunder.
Last time I had this problem on a car, the switch just needed a clean - easy job.
