280i / Tasmin - Plenum to AFM air hose
Discussion
Weather is nice and I pulled out the TVRs today. My son's Tasmin was hardly able to keep running, and after some investigation I found that the air hose that connects the air flow meter to the plenum had split in two places. I have patched it, and it runs fine - but that won't hold long term.
Can someone let me know what car(s) use the same hose, I am hoping some model that sold in North America may have used it so that I can quickly source one out locally.
Thanks,
Rob.

Hi Mate..Is it the black concertina hose?..It was from a ford capri/Granada/sierra 2.8i..They come up from time to time on ebay..I opted for a 90 degree silicone elbow and modded it to suit..I had to cut it down slightly and use some stainless steel 3" collars..Hope it helps...Ziga

that's the one.
I figured Capri would be the same, they sold so few here with injection (most were carb). I guess I can try one of the local performance shops and see if there is some current part that could be adapted.
For now I washed it, siliconed the cracks, and turned the tube 180 degrees on it's axis (not end to end) this way the inside of the elbow is now the outside, so it tends to close up the cracks rather than stretch them.
Car runs ok now - but that wont last - will see what I can find.

Here's what I did on my S1 (same engine, slightly different distance from metering unit to throttle body):
1 x 3.0" Silicone 135° Elbow, Black (SIL000668) = $29.99
1 x Silicone Reducer, 3.0" to 2.75" - Black (SIL000066) = $11.99
1 x T-Bolt Clamp for 2.75" Silicone Parts (CLA000103) = $2.60
3 x T-Bolt Clamp for 3.0" Silicone Parts (CLA000104) = $7.80
1 x 1' Straight Aluminum Pipe, 3.0" (SIL000278) = $9.99
They came from www.siliconintakes.com but I'm sure you can find them elsewhere. It's not the cheapest fix, but I struggled to find a good quality hose in the parts stores. Avoid the one from Advance Auto that looks like a good idea, but it is not air tight.
If nothing else, you can see that one end is 3" and the other is 2.75", which makes a simple hose a bad fit.

Got a replacement yesterday from TVR North America. Much thicker material - suspect it will last forever. It is one diameter however, so I need to cut the end off of the old one as a bushing/sleeve, and then clamp over top. Almost looks like the hose they use at some shops to route your exhaust fumes out a vent panel in the garage door.
