TVR domed wheel centres.
Discussion
Thanks Danny...I thought so!...Next question:...How many people would want a brand new sparkling set, Albeit with domed centre badges..(Unless i can find flat ones)..I have the domed in mine and they dont look too bad...Im looking at options at the moment and whether its cost effective enough...If needed though i might need to borrow or measure the 350i size...I should imagine its only the fitting hole thats different..?...Cheers...Ziga
Hi
I have been looking into this problem as many of us need these replacing and have also tried different ideas avaliable on the market!
The 14" rim center cap is smaller than the 15" rim cap!
The problem as most of you know is the fact they are domed so any thick sticker etc applied to replacment will not stay on because of the nature of it being domed!
I have had an example of a 15" cap replacment made which can be either applied to the original removable plastic domed cover or directly to the wheel center it's self!
I will be testing it so see if it stays stuck first and second if it weathers well.
Then I will offer it to you gents.
I will be showing it at the fest for your opinions!
I willl then also have a 14" replacment done if you like what you see!
Wiper Arm
I am also hope to have a replacment copy of the original wiper arm for the "wedge" on show at the fest for your to look at!
I have spent a lot of time trying to find which vehicle the original came from.
There are various opinons like rear arms off the Fiesta or Escort.
Yes they have kink but to the right not the left.
So I am having a limited number remanufactured!

Hi Andy...Are you talking about having the stickers made or the cap itself?..Im looking into getting the actual dome centres reproduced and chromed and was going to use the rubbery type domed TVR stickers/Badges that i used..They have been on there a while now and my wedge is parked outside exposed to the elements..So far so good!..Cheers...Ziga
Wiper arms are a good idea...

Are you talking about having the complete wheel center cap remanufactured?
If you are there are two sizes one for the 14" rim and one for the 15" rim at least!
Plus are they going to be a copy of the original or some other design?
My design is for the TVR center piece. The logo is in fact on a domed piece of plastic which was stuck onto the domed wheel center cap!
As you know the original cap are made of a form of plastic and was covered in a chrome effect material. paint or some other material.
Good luck if you are trying to reproduce the complete cap!
My idea is just to find a way to replace the logo successfully so it doesn't come off and that it weathers as well as not come off the original cap. The original cap can be refurbed with a little work and repainted using chrome effect paint sutable for use on plastic!

Hi Andy...Yes i was looking into possibly having some made but in reality the tooling for just one size is costly enough..I have some plans to make some bits for the wedge but need to test the water so to speak..Its money i need to invest as i now have no income whatsoever and the inheritance will slowly trickle away..Im looking for some smaller investment's and even if they are short lived i need them to be profitable...There are non-wedge ideas too..

I was contacted only the other day by a very nice chap from Zambia, he tells me he has a marvellous investment opportunity for someone with £2,000 to spare. I can forward on his details if you like?

I have an idea for making the centres that involves minimal tooling costs, so I could make either size, and you could have domed centres or flat as you like.
The only problem I have is getting the finish to the same mirror standard, but you could have them painted silver.
Hi Adam...They were made in resin previously and in honesty i could actually make them myself as mould making and casting is something im familiar with...Chrome plating can be applied to plastic but is only cost effective in batches..Painting looks tacky and un-professional..They could also be cast in a variety of metals as cold metal casting is a pretty tough material and shouldnt be porous as its resin based..But over time most if not everything degenerates...I might refresh myself with knowledge on current resins and compounds..All food for thought....Cheers...ZigaThe only problem I have is getting the finish to the same mirror standard, but you could have them painted silver.

only one question - where do you make your mould.
"Int fridge ont cheese"..
...I used to make them in a shed/garage years ago with a mate...At that time we were making moulds for concrete garden features..A little venture..Until he decided to go on one and end up at her majesty's..About three years ago i was making model RC helicopter bodies but with guns and missles. At the time the motors were restricted to 16 gram bodies so it was very thin and limited hardware..Now they have 2.4ghz motors that can lift double that...And then they start making what i was..Typical..I had even been in touch with the group of vietnam veterans in america who own the rights to the Huey's...They restore what they can..The hog was my favourite...But essentially moulds can be made from all sorts of materials from plaster to silicone..I used to make lead figures with the lost wax process..I think i should get back into it..How about an RC scale version of a wedge and you can have it in your wedge colour...I love model making....Ziga I wonder how hard it would be to take an original TVR cap and pour some epoxy resin to change the convex part to flat. I have four flat TVR logos which would easily glue to the now flat surface. I am not yet at that stage, but is how I expect to solve the problem.
There are now some very good aerosol paints which give a great chrome look.

Is that the original 'straight' wiper arm you're referring to? I'd be very happy to get my hands on one of those!
Re centre caps - I do have some spares left over from a set of 14" wheels but they're not in great condition. From memory most of the badges fell off too!
