Hi all - Am looking for a set of Griffith roof struts - shiny ones !

I had them on my first wedge and they are just that little bit smoother and I prefer the look so as changing the roof it would be a good time to fit them

Fingers crossed

Thanks Guys

Bought mine from Bell hill garage about 6 years ago, had to clean and polish them up for £100 mind. With so many griffs and chimaeras breaking some one will have a pair.

Hi Mark

I have fitted a pair the bottom hole needs to be redrilled about 3/4" lower!

But make sure you plug the old hole, otherwise in time the new hole will brake into the old!

The set for sale a Douglas Valley look pretty rougth and they want top price for them. But with a lot of work they will look better.

They are so much better to use than the old Wedge ones, they don't rattle (Unless they are a real worn out set) its one mod I do approve off!

Andy

Well guys thanks for all your advice - I had a pair fitted on my first 350i and they were so much easier to use as they feel better and as Andy says are quieter.

I have bought the pair from Douglas Valley and will need to work out what to clean them up with but I know if I wait around I wont get a pair and the roof is booked in whooohooo

D & C will also fit them when replacing the roof so bonus - now I need to get polishing

Depends how badly scratched/ chipped they are, and whether they're anodised or not.
Assuming bare alloy, you can use successive grades of wet'n'dry (or those rubbery polishing blocks) to get back to a near-shiny finish then polish up with Autosol if you want a mirror finish. I'd be tempted to stop at say 800 grit w'n'd, leaving them with a matt brushed finish, but that's 'cos I don't like seeing my face in mirrors biggrin

If they're anodised it'll get a bit more complicated... you may have to bung them in a caustic soda bath first to get the top layer off... it'll leave a surface like the arse-end of a hedgehog mind, so more work would be needed.

I think tubular is just as nice..Was there any particular reason for the original ones being oval??...Ziga

I have thought about copying the original wedge ones in alloy but my car has more pressing issues...

As John the Engineer says, the oval tube is a bit of an oddball; I haven't looked closely but I imagine it's TIG welded to machined end-fittings with the welds ground flush... anyone got any pics? The alternative would be to make the struts from solid bar; it'd save a welding operation but use more expensive material and weigh more...

Custom engineered parts are worth every penny in my eyes..if it weighs more than i will just have to go on a diet..it will also give me more steering space...biggrin
