1986 280i ignition parts
Discussion
Anybody familiar with distributor parts for a Fed spec export? My local auto parts can match the cap but not what's inside. example: could not match the bosch nbr for the rotor. Can you help me. I think that some cylinders may not be firing. I was once told that the late 80s small Ford pickup had the same block but not sure.
Any help would be appreciated.
thank you

hey mate i just brought some stuff like that last October ....the cap cost had cost me $37.50 ....rotor $12.50 ....magnecor wires $84.50 from classic motor works and they are our side of the pond .....hope this will help ....can find air filters ford merka or as i remember it xr4i was the prefect fit ...oil filters at any napa ....also areostar or broncos for some engine parts...
I have an S series with the 2.8i, Bosch distributor (red cap) and bought the cap and rotor from Autozone. The cap is FO-124 ($9) and the rotor is FO-123 ($6). If you google these part numbers you might find alternative part numbers that your local shop can use. These were used in the Alfas and Porsches of that era.

It looks like the front brakes are Ford Granada, which wasn't sold in the States. Looking up the Ferodo part number gives plenty of other numbers: http://www.findpart.org/part/fer-fdb167 and googling the TRW part number brings up this site: http://britishpartsdirect.com/index.php?route=prod...
They might be hard to find locally, but $30 for decent pads online isn't bad.

Jim,
I just replaced my cap & rotor. I got them from Rockauto.com and specified a 1985 Alfa Romeo GTV-6. It is a perfect match and price was fine. It has the "resistor" in the rotor arm, which is something I had never seen on any other car.
Now if I could just find a cheap (cream) engine run sensor!
Wilf.
